To clarify...
If a charge starts BEHIND the flank of a target, then only 1 element must "fit". The rest are just pivoted/lined up "as much as they can".

As the Syracusan individual who did place the hill, I would point out that there are many solutions -- Woods or Brush, or simply not attacking there with your cavalry.
