I thought the mention of "dead" rules was interesting. It's too bad that
the hobby is often so trendy that a decent set of rules is simply no
lomger played because something else came out. I was playing ancients
20+ years ago with WRG 5th ed. Skipped 6th (off to college) then played
a few games of 7th, which I loved. I've never been able to get excited
about any of the trends: Tactica, Armati, DBM (OK, I admit that DBA is
kind of nice for a one-off beer & pretzels game). They all seem so bland.
I think that as I age along with the hobby, I find more and more that
some rules are just classic and have never been improved upon by
successors. I'm glad to see the WRG 7th phoenix rising from the ashes.
