My vote, since I won't be at H'con this year, is
1200pt on 8x5. This give the most manuver game you
can get and still have conclusion in a timely manner.
Cuts out on all the supper large crap troop armies too

Heh heh, "vote", that's rich:) :)
The table size at Hcon for the Mini will be 6x4 in 15mm and 8x5 in 25mm.
The rounds are still gonna be 3 hours in length so the "extra" table
space will undoubtedly soak up "hack and slash time".
See other long post on the philosophy behind timed games and table
sizes.

Thanks for the response Todd ... :)
Actually I don't remember where I heard that quote, and as I said, I'm not sure
I even agree. I'm a very old 15mm player, but am pretty new to 25mm, so I don't
think I have a good base to judge from, yet. I have finished one 25mm army and
am working on two more as we speak.
Down here in our area, we try to teach our new players to play quickly, and
encourage all to get the battle going quickly. I know up in Dallas, they play
with a chess clock for just that purpose. I really can't say that we have a big
problem with people putzing around. This is probably purely coincidental, as
most of our slower players went over to DBM.

Greg,
I see your arguement about table size and quality of
general. However, there are some serious exceptions
to this rule. There are players in 15mm who are not
necessarily good generals, but they can putz around so
much that no real combats take place thus leading to
1-1 scores taking both people out of the tournament.
If you think this make for good generalship I disagree
playing not to lose is not good generalship.
There are quite a few generals out there, regardless
of scale that it doesn't matter what army they are
using. It does help to have a combat oriented army in
25mm as table space is limited, but that does not take
away quality generalship. Take Dave Markowitz and his
ferocious Scots Common (killer army if you ask me).
At least in 25mm (especially in the NICT) those
players who are good at putzing can be brought to
battle and their real generalship is put to the test.
