Hi all
I have an army being painted. It is Ayyubid, Saladins army and I am
wondering how well they will do in warrior? I always thought the
army would be fun to do.
One more thing, when will all of the roman army lists be available
and is there a Late Imperial roman list available someplace now?
Thanks
Brad

Hi Brad,
I can't speak to the first part of your post, becasue
I have not seen Ayyubid's played.
Imperial Warrior is in the final stages, and will be
relased shortly. Late Imperial Romans will be in that
publication. In the short term, if you have access to
the older WRG books, the LIR list can be used as a
basis for Warrior, you just have to convert the point
cost from Fig's to Elements.

Several years ago, back in the "Days of 7th Past", I had a great
experience playing against a 15mm Ayyubid army.
It was one of the first time I had ever made the playoffs in a good
sized tournament, and my brave German heavy knights faced the greatly
outclasses Ayyubids in the finals. The Ayyubid player, by skillful
use of counters, and my somewhat flawed tactics of actually obeying
my orders ... lured me into the biggest missile trap ever seen
south of Mason-Dixon.
Never have so many, been shot by so many, for so much! He finally
charged and blew me off the table. This was actually a mercy killing,
as at least I no longer had to face his missile fire.
I think this army will play well in 15mm, provided you make sure you
understand that you are a shoot first, ask questions later sort of
army. I'm not sure how it will play in the larger scale.
Take care ... g

Brad,
It's just my opinion, but I feel the Fatimid has better support troops and
more of them. Just an opinion. By far they are better than the scummy Mameluks!

But the good news is, since I am going to get killed in warrior early on, I
guess I shouldnt worry about how good my armies are but just use what I have to
learn the game and then pick one I like thats good after I get up to speed. I
really like the idea of units. I played 7th some before dbm came out and since
I missed out on the 6th edition I wasnt involved with all the controversy. I
actually liked 7th edition and Warrior sounds like an improved version.

I played Ayyubids in one of the themes a few years back and Greg's post is dead
one. Good skirmishing army if that is your style of play. I played Bill Low in
a game where all I did was move from flank to flank picking off units, the lack
of punch kept me from closing in with his Crusaders. A 15mm army, although I
recall someone playing them in the 25mm-only NICT in the last 5 years.

Brad,
I believe my reasoning for my opinion is that the Fatimids which are the
previous army to Saladin if I'm not mistaken, has some close order spearmen in
addition to more Sudanese footmen (Saladin actually massacred his Sudanese
auxillaries for God know's why and gets less than his predecessors, the
Fatimids). I really like the close order spear as I like to use these sorts of
troops to hold open terrain while the Sudanese Bow take rocky/brushy areas and
the Sudanese spearmen take and hold built up areas and woods. This is a very
flexible army and really the same guys as your Ayubids but with more of the
"right stuff" IMHO.
