Well, a great tourney. Due to things beyond all of our control, turn out was
low, but the folks that could make it had a great time.

As always it is a pleasure to play in this group - there really were not any
rules issues to speak of and the mid-round-three pizza break might be something
we'd want to make into a tradition....

Border Wars Warrior Tourney Results
Format: 1200 points, Dogs of War, 15mm, 2x2.5hour rounds, 4'x4' tables.

1. Jon Cleaves, Seleucid
2. Jon Becker, Seleucid
3. Charles Yaw, Sassanid
4. Matt Johnson, 100 Years War English
5. Marshall Bass, Early Burgundian
6. Steve Hollowell, Italian Condotta
7. Todd Schneider, Late Imperial Roman
8. Kelly Wilkinson, Feudal German

Prizes:

Prizes were provided by Dave Smith, the Dead General's Society and Kelly
Wilkinson

DGS Military Misfortune Award: Kelly Wilkinson - the Osprey essential history on
the Wars of Alexander
Kelly Wilkinson Memorial Next to Last Place Award - Todd Schneider - 8
beautifully painted 25mm legionaires and 4 15mm late roman camp tents by Baeuda
The Dave Smith 'Didn't get either the last or next to last place award': Steve
Hollowell - a 25mm unpainted Parthian fast warrior army
Best Sportsman - Marshall Bass - plaque. Everyone was a great sport, but not
only did Marshall play in a very sportsmanlike manner, he was a hero to play at
all - his schedule has not allowed him to play regularly lately and the painter
working on his army failed him, but he grabbed my Early Burgundians and jumped
in anyway. Thanks, Marshall.
Best Painted - Matt Johnson - plaque. Showing himself to be the master of the
non-metallic armor technique...
Best Rookie - Matt Johnson - plaque. the DGS gives this to the highest placing
player who has not won a tournament yet. Matt finished fourth behind three
already NICT qualified players. He is ready to break out!
Third Place - Charles Yaw - 15mm medieval camp by Baeuda
Second Place - Jon Becker - 15mm Greek Peltasts by Old Glory
First Place - Jon Cleaves - plaque and DGS Bronze Star.

Again, a GREAT event - very collegial due to the numbers. Border Wars is tough
- two weeks after Recruits, one after Fort Worth Wars and on the weekend of the
American Royal Barbecue in KC. (This is not too mention last minute weddings,
bailing babysitters and an early childbirth..)
We are looking at a January event to try and get some more out of towners to
attend. More on that from Charles later.

The Dogs of War format was a blast - there were even a couple instances of D's
killing all their opponents and becoming C's for a game.
It was a very low scoring event, overall, and I think this is due to the number
of low-point and non-shock units on the table.
For those of you who watch these things, I wouldn't react too much to the fact
that the three elephant armies finished 1, 2,3. Those folks are also three NICT
qualified players...
We do plan to start handicapping qualifiers in some way in future KC
events...something akin to what is done in the DC area.

Roll up and win!
Jon
