Assume the following: a Legion is in fulcrum and stands to receive an enemy
cavalry charge. On the first bound of combat, the Legion is pushed back,
and therefore disordered. As I understand the list rule, the Legion also
falls out of fulcrum when being pushed back.
Can that unit then utilize the "circulating combatants" rule during the
second round of combat, replacing the front rank element with an element
from the rear?
Thanks. Dave (who is thinking through anti-Roman warfare tactics).

Hmmmmm....this changes things.... I had been keeping my Legionaries out of
fulcrum when facing mounted so that my front rank could be steady in the second
round of HTH denying the mounted the plus 2 for fighting disordered foot. Never
thought the rule completely through........
If I understand this right, I could face the mounted in fulcrum (with HTWs
"planted" counting as LTS with all the associated benefits) in the first round
of combat, if I beat the mounted great, but if I lose and get disordered as a
combat result, I can exchange ranks in the current bound (as part of a recoil)
or in the following bound (as either an approach or counter) and face the
mounted in the second round of HTH as steady foot with HTW in the first rank and
disordered foot with 1HCW in the second rank, denying the mounted the plus 2 for
fighting disordered foot (but the if my unit had recoiled in the first round of
HTH the mounted would still get following up) and if I receive another
disordering combat result in the second round of HTH, I would have to waver test
for being disordered while disordered.....right?
Back to using fulcrum against mounted...........
