I use brown felt from the fabric store. Topped with mostly green
shades of Woodland Scenics.

I think that 3M number 77 contact cement in a spray can is much
superior to the Bordens' brand.

Doesn't Elmers dry kind of glossy? Also, its water soluble so is at
risk from having a drink spilled on it. The more expensive Woodland
Scenics "ballast cement" seems to spray easier and dry matte, and its
not water soluble. I haven't tried artists "pure acrylic media" yet,
but I have a feeling that's what the WS stuff is.

White glue being water soluable has pros and cons -- I use it for flocking
figures in case I ever need to take the flocking off. A better solution for
permanance is 'Carpenter's Glue' or 'PVC Glue'. It comes like white glue
but is yellow-beige in colour. In its liquid form it is water soluable, but
once dry it is water resistant.

thicker and is much tackier, however the Borden's is very readily available
to me while the 3M requires more work to get and the Borden's has been
sufficient to date.

watered down for the turf and it has dried looking the same and seems to be
a bit more durable (harder finish). I haven't used the artists media yet -
let me know how it works for you if you do. Once it dries, regular Elmer's
(i.e. not the Elmer's School Glue) it is not water-soluble - at least
nothing we've done to it has harmed it yet.
