Hi Jon,
Question (thinking about my Hebrews) - if a chariot unit with 2E chariots in
front and a 2E LMI detachment as the second rank pushes another unit back,
when the chariots follow-up, can the detachment opt to separate?

From 2.53:
"The only phases in which a detachment may join or separate from a combined unit
are Approach, Counter/Retirement and March. "
So, no.
