The Moogs vs CB comparison to European Pike vs CB is an interesting yet flawed
discussion. One is trying to equate a tightly grouped, shieldless pike block
designed to be a push force and estimating casualties the same as a loose mass
of lightly armed, fast running javelin or 2 handed wpn armed shock force.
A 32 man pike block occupies less total space (base size 40mm X 15mm [in 15mm
scale] X 8 = 4800 sq mm versus 40mm X 20mm X 8 for 6400 sq mm.
Yet the pike occupy the ground at a rate of 1 fig per 150 sq mm versus 1 fig
per 266+ sq mm.
And the Moogs cover the ground at a rate that is 50% faster!
From playing other systems, the Swiss should be more casualty prone to missle
fire since they are unshielded. Yet, The only bowfire killers of "pike" en
masse is English archery versus Scots shiltrons. That is historically not
simulation speaking. Evidently, few armies of the feudal period massed archers
to make them as an effective troop killer as the English did.
I wish FHE had managed a little better to "balance" the early armies versus
the later since it is hard to garner support for "period" tournaments. DBM has
handled it in a simplistic yet fairly effective manner. Massed weak bow Bw(I)
armies and early armies frequently win tournaments, but I don't see a Nubian
Warrior army defeating a Knight's of Saint John's army anytime soon if ever.
Warrior still has a way to go, yet I play it. I like the fact my bow armed
mtd troops get to shoot, unlike the DBX systems. Only "Might of Arms" works
close to Warrior. Keep plugging FHE, but take the comments with a smile,
remember we are the folks buying your products!
