I'm sure it should be, but it's not clear to me how many figures I
should for a body making a flank attack. Is it:
A) only the figures on the one element (plus ranks behind it depending
on weapon) closest to the front of the attacked body. that's not a
very clear way to say it. What I mean is that the attacking body will
have itself lined up in legal flank charge contact and then will count
only its rightmost or leftmost (depending on which of the enemy's
flanks it charged into) element figures.
B) all the figures (plus ranks behind depending on weapon) of the
flank attacker's "in flank contact" elements.
the reason i ask is that it seems like it should be "B" but the rules
say that element bases must be standard width but that depth can be
altered to accomodate models. So say I have some infantry charge the
flank of a column of El. The size of the models and not the game
mechanics will determine how many "figures on target' I have because
the El column will be longer or shorter based on the element depth.
But It shouldn't Be "A" either becuase if the charged body is a column
then, It will have a big fat flank to be charged and take casualties
on.
i'm sure this is a dumb question and i have refrained from asking it
but i have searched the rules and can't find an answer. There is a
diagram (6.165 pg. 43 EXAMPLE: Contacting the flank in a charge #3)
that shows a flank charge by a body two elements wide. The second
element doesn't count in the first round of combat but again it is not
clear to me if this is:
A) because it is not yet in contact
B) because that is just how flank charges work
thanks and sorry for the long sort of convoluted question.
confused.

Jonathan, the answer is B.
If the enemy is on deeper bases than standard, that's cool, we allow that. But
you have to *act* as though they are for all game mechanics.
If an element in a flank charge does not reach the enemy body inside the
charger's tactical move, then that element is not counted in the initial fight.
you can't have it count just because of the pivoting and lining up rules. you
keep it 20p back until the initial bound of combat is resolved.
