Cool, Glad to hear that! Besides, I would miss visiting with your wife,
daughter, and Excellent friends that come over to play D&D! Oh yeah and for that
matter, the rest of the gang!

competition gaming with Warrior. Does this mean that you're going over to
DBM?

No no. I may have choosen my words poorly (I used 'try' not 'play', but
should have used 'run'). We still will play, we just do not want to run
them. With KC 8 hours away, and SA 5 hours away, I will still play a few,
but right now I am whipped as far as getting one together. The passage of
time will certainly change that too .

Jon,
As you may be aware, I have lots of 15mm armies and The DGS guys are
welcome to fill out any armies from mine if they need to get up to the 1200
point total. Just offering.

I would change May from Fast Warrior to 1000 or 1200 to get people to come.
But I am the only player here with a full 25mm army, so it will be a while
before we can do 25mm.

Tcon is in March.
Far in advance is key. It's competing with Cold Wars that is the issue...lol
>Tcon is possibly ideal from location although cheap-ass airfare locations are
more prime than something centralized that's still an 8 hour drive for most
folks.
>And Tcon's timing blows in terms of "competing" with Cold Wars. If I'm forced
to choose, we all know which one I'm attending:) :)

>Um, although I don't live "here", I do live in the general 3 hour vicinity of
"here" And I have a bazillion 25mm armies. That being said, if we do
something like this, it really should be in 15mm--that enables the local base to
fully participate with armies of their liking and choosing, makes it easier for
those traveling by air (easier psychologically I guess), and broadens the
potential player base. I mean any 25mm player has something in 15mm just to
slum with the little folks:) But the same in reverse isn't usually true.

Greg,
Most of the players here are 15mm players, but I am
sure Jon could give you a game in 25mmm.

I mean any 25mm player has something in 15mm just to
slum with the little folks:) But the same in reverse isn't usually true.
I used to subscribe to the idea that a player with a lot of armies in 25
could just bring them and we'd get a lot of people playing 25mm that way. I do
not anymore. The players I have recruited chose 15mm for various very logical
reasons and they generally want to play with the armies they painted and not
someone's leavings. Those who are perennially figure-whores may not care what
they play with, but the guys who do take the time to collect and paint their
own armies should be supported in that scale and not coerced into another with
borrowed lead, especially when loaners are often substandard and patchwork.
>I'm a figure whore? Hee hee and I thought it was simply a short attention
span. My figures and armies are not "leavings" btw. Whenever I offer up my
collection, I do so with no intention to play, thus maximizing whatever folks
might want to utilize. I don't know too many folks willing to haul half a dozen
or more 25mm armies for people to use. Jake does it, Danny Weitz does it, I do
it. Of course the shortcoming in this is that yeah, I might not have every
exotic variation of some list that someone might want to run.
>My original comments (quotes in part above) were exactly about what you just
said. I'm not terribly concerned about why somebody doesn't want to play with a
"borrowed" army, I've simply observed over the years that most people don't;
they prefer to use their own stuff, and use an army they've presumably been
playing with and know how to run it.
>Bottom line: we're saying the same thing, only differently. I simply wanted
to point out that I'm "here" and have a load of 25mm should anybody who comes in
want to play a game(s) in that scale or people who are thinking about branching
out.

A figure whore is someone who plays but doesn't ever quite get an army of his
own done... not that there's anyone like that in KC, mind you...lol
>Ah, now I understand.
Scott, the quality of painters I am with is such that pretty much any
borrowed army is 'leavings' from a quality of presentation point of view. These
guys have generally pushed beyond simple game-quality paint and basing and just
about every army they do is a paint award contender.
>I have trouble seeing that but only because they're painting in 15mm and I
can't focus that close anymore without taking out my contacts:) I'll dust
off my first and second place award plaques from Cold Wars and Hcon painting
contests when I get home!
That is something to be fully encouraged, as you know.
>I'm the visual guy, yes. I will say that one thing we (Warrior) seem to be
sharing with the dice rolling game is a greater emphasis on the quality of army
painting. At Cold Wars and Hcon, I'm always very careful to peruse all the
armies in play and I gotta admit, in both scales, we're without equal. I say
that because unlike the dice rolling game, one sees loads of different painting
styles on display. I'll be the first to say that generally, the armies in the
dice rolling game all look great.....but there is definitely a certain sameness
about how they're painted which detracts from the overall impression. Jump over
to Warrior and you get all kinds of great styles that create, imnsho, a better
overall impression when you're looking at 16+ games going on. And in 15mm, our
figs are without equal although we still need to work on those camps!
>I'd talk more about this but I'm getting ready to paint my two flying serpents
(one small and one large) and two dragons for various 25mm FanWar armies.

The camps are starting to look good though! Tim and I can bang out
something that they sell at the dealer's area for $50+ in an hour or
two! It doesn't take much to put that extra polish on an army!

The venue is there...just ask and use it. Lonestar Comics in central
Arlington has always welcomed and accomodated the Warrior gaming community.
