That is a point of some dispute...lol Personally, I think the right amount
of time for 1600 is 3 hours. The tourneys on the east coast, however,
generally allot four hours for 1600 points. Some say this is because of
agonizingly
slow play on the part of those with whom this is popular...lol.

Good point. 50% demoralization was one of my better decisions....lol

We here in KC have been messing with 1000 and 1200 a lot. And Fast Warrior
is a joy at 1.5 hours per game...

I actually prefer 1200 point games over everything we do (although I've had
two very enjoyable years at 2000 pts Doubles--Jon, Demetrius is waiting should
you gaff off that "other" partner of yours>grin<, I'm telling ya, we can win
in 15mm running AES).
Scott, I have won the 15mm doubles, beating you to do it. So, why would I
choose you as a partner in 15's over Mike, fellow team national champ, in the
manly scale? lol

Seriously, if he has to cancel, wouldn't you rather play in 25's?

Mike got to me first. Let's see how it goes. I admit to having enjoyed last
year's games and Bill really stole that last one from us...lol
Our companions routed moogs because we wrote the book on keeping cav > 120p

This year, it's me and Mike that will have the moogs and I am quite ready for
that trick...

Fred,

Here in the Independent Republic of Texas we play 1600 point in 3 hours. It
seems to work very well; most games are determine before then unless someone
is intentional stalling. We have tried shorter games, but they do not give
enough time to decisively declare a winner. We have try 3.5 and 4 hours but
realistically you only get one extra bound for the extra hour.

We will experiment a little more - I think it is likely we will stay
at 1500 games for comps but see a higher proportion of results than
formerly due to the faster demoralisation.

Our biggest tournament, Cancon is approaching. It will be held 24-26
January 2004 (Australia Day Long Weekend) in Canberra. The format is
1500 points single list, 15mm, two rounds a day for three days, with
a Swiss Chess Draw.

This is the first Warrior CanCon, the decision having been taken at
the last CanCon to trial Warrior here.

You guys ROCK! Go CanCon! Or is that Cancun? Wishful thinking on my part
although it is summer down under (I are a geographer).

I'll post my NICT survey results in a couple of weeks. But the clear majority
of those who answered the poll (23 players I think) preferred 4 hour rounds at
1600 points.

I actually prefer 1200 point games over everything we do (although I've had two
very enjoyable years at 2000 pts Doubles--Jon, Demetrius is waiting should you
gaff off that "other" partner of yours>grin<, I'm telling ya, we can win in 15mm
running AES). We currently play these 1200 pt games at 3 hours. Actually, I'm
a better Warrior player as the point count in the army goes down--go figure. I
actually like playing Burgundian Ordonnance at 1200 pts in either scale although
in 15mm, the army fits in the palm of my hand:)Smile:)

The decision here in North America to go with 1600 points was made slightly
before my lengthy tenure as Chief Umpire. Since we now have a nice variety of
point values at our tourneys (1200, 1600, 2000 and around 700 if you're playing
FW), nobody's squawking about changing point values. Other occasionally run
tourneys use the oddball 1350 pt army.

Ah yes, Demetrios Poliorketes (the "Besieger") and his monopthalmos
(one-eyed) father, I played them for many years! However, I later
switched to Antigonos Gonatas (knock-knees), savior of Hellenistic
civilization from the Gallic invasion of the 270's. I did this
because Gonatas was a wise, civilized, and liberal ruler, unlike his
decadent father and his ambitious, ruthless, but talented
grandfather. If, as I do, you pick your armies based on personality
rather than hit charts, the best Macedonian was Gonatas. I enjoyed
playing his army for about ten years, and then I realized I could
lose just as colorfully with REAL Greeks--Hoplites (Epaminondas)and
Hellenistics (Philopoemon), and besides there's even less cavalry for
me to mismanage, and what can beat my 20 point flamin' bacon brigade?
As for Medieval Greeks, you really can't do better than the Komneni.
For those few who might care, these lists represent the good guys of
Greek history. Victory without honor is no victory.

>Who, I might add, rose from almost total obscurity to damn near reunite most of
Alexander's empire. Okay, ole One-Eye was a satrap, a not inconsequential
position within the expanding Macedonian buracracy. Nonetheless, while the
golden boys of Alex's staff (Ptolemy, Seleucus, et al) were off galavanting
around the world learning how to wage war and win battles, ole One-Eye was back
home probably learning first hand about the logistics of keeping the golden boys
in wine. I find him fascinating because of his rise and the fact that he was of
Phillip's generation, not Alexander's, and was beating Alex's generation at its
own game. Plus, Ipsus is such a great father-son story. There's the old fart
standing fast with the pikemen, surrounded by his enemies, waiting vainly for
that moron to come back.

If, as I do, you pick your armies based on personality rather than hit charts,
the best Macedonian was Gonatas.

>I attempt to find a balance in there somewhere--in that, you and I fall into a
particular class of player that's not interested solely in the efficacy of any
particular list in destroying all opponents. Hoplites tho, that's just a little
too S&M even for me:)Smile:)

--- Hi,

I dont know about any of the selucids been the "best" Macedonian.
What about the man himself (ie Alexander). They dont call him "the
great" for nothing. My first ancients army was alexandrian imperial
complete with alexander figure and I still consider this the
strongest army I own. As for personality he had everything
megalomania, fits of drunken rage, questionable sexual practices,
tragic early rock star style death, etc, etc. I love telling the
selucids I encounter in competition that they are but a pale
impersonation of the short great one.

Marty, Marty, Marty. Neither Strategos Holder nor myself said
anything about Seleucids. Ick! After all they are only barely Greeks.
Most of them wore trousers! We were discussing the Antigonids:
Antigonos One-eye, his son Demetrios the Besieger, and Demie's son
Antigonos Gonatas. They are represented in Warrior in the Early
Asiatic Successor and Early Macedonian Successor lists. THEY WERE NOT
SELEUCIDS!!!! Next thing you know, Scott, someone will be identifying
us with that mangy Thracian poltroon Lysimachos or the ruthless
Perdikkas!

As for the short great one, Alex Imperial was also my first army, and
I completely understand the fascination. Alexander was, in my book,
also a good guy. However, it's kind of like the way people used to
feel about the Cowboys or the Yankees; I just got to where I wanted
something less popular---and more Greek.
