Another newbie question for y'all - other than what is mentioned in
the Warrior rulebook, are there other visual tricks you use to
convey the various troops states on-board with resorting to markers
of some kind?
I played around with a couple, in some cases replacing what's in the
book - though in all cases, of course, these are just visual
representations and have no game efffect:
- skirmishing: in addition to turning every other stand around
backwards, I also "pushed" the stand turned around in that way
backwards a partial base depth, and allowed it to push the ranks
behind backwards as well - which then had their alternate stands
pushed back, etc. It ends up looking like
xx xx
xx
xx xx
xx
It's still easy to see where the front really is, and it gives it a
more open appearance, in my opinion
- disordered: same as book, wiggle the ranks but keep each touching
another
- shaken: wiggle "more", this time leaving space between some or all
stands, and start peeling off rear ranks a bit to make it look like
they're edging backwards (but keep facing forward) ... though all
troops in contact with enemy need to be touching properly
- broken: per book, spraying wildly along the route path (with a
center rear element marking where it "really" is
- rallying: turn an element on one end of the body sideways, as if
yelling to its compatriots to get their act together.
Can't think of a good one for tired or exhausted, other than maybe
casualty caps (which I've seen used at Historicon a couple of years
ago). I played with bending backwards the edge units on a body to
mark unease, but I wasn't crazy about the effect if the cause wsn't
an unsupported flank - though I played with doing it only in those
cases.
Anybody have other tricks?
