Still brain-dead from both gaming and drive home, so more detailed AAR
(complete with laurels and griping, especially one gripe ) later.
However, toplines:
Derek Downs repeated as NICT champion, with 4 straight 5 point wins and a
3-2 against me in the final game. Jon C was placed second.
Charles Yaw - owner and painter of the tournaments' other extremely pretty
Sassanid - won the Open, I believe. Eric Turner, playing as a fill-in,
won the 15mm Theme with Ostrogoths, a feat worthy of especial mention!
And in the Sassanid-dominated 25mm Theme, mine clearly had the superior
morale thanks to their vivid paintjob, and triumphed 5-1 over Frank
Gilson's Sassanids in that final match (as noted, more details later, but
note that Frank was playing under the handicap of not only borrowed lead,
but his *second* borrowed Sassanid after the owner of his first had to
leave (!) and hence restricted figure choice, including no SHC). I think
that I have missed one Open winner, to whom i apologise, but I don't know
who it was.
Most important, Mike Byrne was acknowledged as the Sportsman of the
weekend. Congrats, Mike.
Nine four-hour games later, I still like the Sassanids, thankfully .
Derek's 19-elephant Khmer was impressive, as was Alex Vaeth's
table-covering Mixtec. But, more later. Congrats especially to Derek and
Mike.

After 15.5 hours driving, I'm at work. I'll have full results later in the week
after my brain kicks back in. Ed Bernhard won the 15mm Mini running Huns I
think (will check later).

Yo to all.
I will add my 5 cents to what people have said
First , it was great to see some old friends and it was good to put some faces
to names of people I read about on the Warrior egroup. I met Kelly W. Yo!!
Kelly. Mike Bard! Go Hoplites. Matt and I are working on a Hoplite army now and
are waiting for Classical Warrior. JonC now I know who you are.
Also Jake K is a great guy. He didn't kill me for all those times I stood him
up. Tim B is still in shock that Matt and I were not familiars ,but were there
in body AND that I played 3 full rounds and not have to leave. But Tim,it was a
miracle that I did get there. I have to apologize to PaulG and TomMac that I
couldn't join them Sat. night.I really appreciated the offer.
And Scott H as usual thanks for making it a fun time for me and putting up with
all the crap.
Derek! You have a great son, we had a great game. And say Yo to Josh thanks for
our game. It refreshed my memory. And Congrats for the win in the NICT.
Dan W congrats to you. Matt will be happy to hear you won.
Congrats to Charles Y. I played him my last round in the Open.I can honestly
say. I made him what he is today " THE WINNER".
My wife was happy to see come home even if it was "on my shield"
But she is used to that.
I have said enough.

Thanks for the compliment, Ewan. I for one had a great weekend at the first
NICT / Historicon I have attended. I had great games with everyone I played
and I look forward to coming back next year. Compared to other national
type tournaments I have attended, the warrior group is easy to get
acquainted with and the competition, while at the highest level, was
sportsmanslike and friendly. And to Ed and everyone else who played ship
cards until 2 in the morning every night, what a blast! And finally to
Shawn, I have a special award ready for you when you come out to KC next
month, The Blevins Camp Commissar Award. :)
Thanks to all who made the event possible,
Charles
