I was given a copy of the playtest version of Warrior several weeks
ago. I have read the rules and all the message traffic. I was
planning on getting into Warrior (I play MoA currently)and buying the
rules but am having trouble finding a list for the Romans during the
Second Punic War. As this is my favorite period I really can't see
getting into a game in which this list won't be available until 2004
(why such a long wait on the Classical Period anyway?)!
I cannot locate a copy of the original WRG lists and the NASAMW lists
in the file section do not have a suitable list. While I could always
research my own list, I prefer to stay in line with currently
accepted lists.
I think I'll have my hands full with just learning the rules :)
Anybody out there that can help with a solid Roman list for 2nd Punic
War (Italian with variants for Spain and Africa)?

>Two reasons. The first one has to do with the actual choice of which
periods to do in what order. Since the Classical Period has seen three
sets of "updates" (NASAMW, Book of Hosts, "new" WRG), over the last 10
years, we decided that they could wait until last, ie, other periods
have been neglected for the same 10+ years and needed "help" earlier.
The second one has to do with the process. I am one person and alas,
the riches flowing into my bank account from Four Horsemen Enterprises
are insufficient for me to quit my day job:) As such, I have
perhaps 2-3 hours per night to work on lists with the occasional weekend
cram session. After the drafts are completed, they go out to a core
group for review. Then they go to Bill Low for a really really really
intense review and edit. They then bounce back to me, then back to
Bill, until 1) we're satisfied with the end result, or 2) we've reached
our publication deadline.
I cannot locate a copy of the original WRG lists and the NASAMW lists
in the file section do not have a suitable list. While I could always

>You're better off using something established since that will form the
basis for the updated army lists in 2004.

>I'd suggest you dredge up the "new" WRG lists, I think they're still
available commercially (just don't know where, I'm sure someone else can
point you in the right direction). The NASAMW revisions are available
in the files section of this news group. The "old" WRG lists are long
out of print. Book of Hosts, I dunno.
>Also, I'd urge you to "get into" the game now. Believe me, "punic" era
Romans ain't gonna be all that different from what you see now.
Moreover, there is a list rule regarding Roman maniples from the period
that's in Fast Warrior and will most likely be in the final Warrior
lists. I'd love nothing more than to have someone run that list in a
"real world" atmosphere so we can work (any) kinks out of it prior to
publication.

I know what you mean! Punic Wars and Wars of the Successors are the
period that we have been into for the longest, so it is a bit tedious
to have to wait. Especially with the potential list rule allowing the
Romans to interpenetrate their units freely. This makes them quite
scarey in Piquet and I suspect it will be even more advantageous in
Warrior.
The longer I have to wait for the lists the more of a trashing they
are going to get when they do arrive. :-)
In the meantime I shall scan the lists from the original WRG book and
the 7th Ed. update (?) and post then in the files section here if
that is any help? I am away from civilisation for a couple of weeks,
visiting USA ( ) so it will probably be after that.
Stick with Warrior, I am sure it will be worth it.
Cheers

Scott (and all listening in)
Is there any reason why the roman and swiss list rules (that appear now in Fast
Warrior) can't be approved for use with those lists in current NASAMW events?
I ask you this 'publicly' so that folks will know we are at least thinking about
it and to get a response.

It would be nice if all the old WRG lists were
scanned. I haven't played ancients in almost 6 years,
so I don't have any lists. The NASAMW lists in the
files section are incomplete, as they are mostly
adendum to WRG lists. Anyway, I look forward to my
first Warrior Tournament in June in the land of
Derekus. Gonna kick that postman's @ss with hot dice
and cold beer :)

It's a question of playtesting and balance. List rules that work perfectly
well for FW will not necessarily translate well into full size games.
While a version of the Swiss list rules have been used before, and found to
be quite potent, the Roman stuff is, I believe, quite new and untested.
Should get further consideration in the context of the full list revision
before becoming "official" at the higher level. At least, that's my two
cents worth.
