Hi, Craig,

You can try Foundry at www.wargamesfoundry.com or Amazon at
www.amazonminiatures.com .

Not everyone likes the 'build your own' concept of many of the Amazon figs -
seperate heads, bodies, weapons & shields, but for something like the early
Persians, this allows a lot of mix & matching to give the irregular feel to the
army, and allow you to differentiate the different units.

They also have the old Garrison, SKT and other makes now under their wing, but
they only cast some of these to order a couple of times a year. Worth a look
though.

Foundry are well known, but most of their early Persians are a bit small (old
figures). However, they do have some newer figs - mainly for middle/late Persian
- which are nice figs and would fit some earlier troops. Their Biblical range is
also useful here - Assyrians, Chaldeans, Elamites, Babylonians etc. would, to
some degree, fit the bill.

Another manufacturer of Persians is Vendel Miniatures on
www.homepage.ntlworld.com/heinz.p .

I've just thought of another - www.black-tree-design.com - they have some nice
Thracians, Medians, Phrygians, Ethiopians and Sythians as well as stock
Persians, and some of the Thessalians, Thebans and, at a push, Athenians and
Spartans could be used as there were two or three states - Lydia, Karia,
Phrygia, come to mind - that moved to some Hoplite styles about this time, and
provided troops to the early Achaemenid Persians, as did the Greek Ionian
states.

Also, as you move slightly on, you had the Medizing Greeks, including Thebans
and Thessalians, so the Black Tree figures hit the spot here.

That should keep you busy for a while!

Colin
