Scott,
Since list specific rules will be included in the new army
list books (a good thing) I was wondering if there will be list
specific cost increases to maintain the balance derived from the point
system. For example, if my LC with JLS, B, sh only fight with 1 rank
and someone else has the same troop type that will fight with 1.5
ranks, will that troop type cost more in that list?
I was just curious to see if you were thinking this way,
since it has been pretty clear that point costs will remain the
same.

>Heh heh heh, see that can of worms you just opened? >grin<
>The point system ain't changin. You'd hafta go back thru the previous mail
(which you can do here at cruddy yahoogroups if ur so inclined) to follow the
back and forth on this one. To date, no one has come up with a comprehensive,
playtested point system that would *possibly* knudge any Ho to support a
wholescale change.
>Plus, in my experience, tinkering around the edges (like making troops that
wedge cost an extra point) doesn't actually change much in the overall scheme
of things. Okay, it might at 1000 points but it clearly doesn't at 1200 or
1600 points.
>Bottom line: thanks for asking:) :)

What is the thinking on list-specific rules.
An old debate comes to my mind immediately ... a second line of Roman
HI being allowed to charge through and replace another line of Roman
HI that is already in hand-to-hand combat.
If you aren't going to reissue Phil Barker's stern warning about rule
modifications I can just play it the way I want, but I was curious if
you expect to see many or any list-specific rules.
I apologize for not scrolling through 2,400 previous posts is this
has already been addressed.

We will have list specific rules and it looks like that roman one, or a version
of it, might make the cut.

>That will be a list rule in some form. You will see a version of it when
Warrior itself is published since the 276 Fast Warrior army lists will be part
of the Warrior rulebook. And such a list rule is in there. However, since
Classical Warrior will either be the last or next to last army list book done,
the list rule for the "full size" army is a ways off.

>There will be a couple of list rules per book I'm sure but what they are,
precisely, at this point is uncertain. In some cases, these list rules will
apply to more than one army and all that will be stated right up front in each
army list book. For instance, in Biblical Warrior, there are "pikes". In
fact, they're just stupidly long spears that are pikes but obviously the units
wielding them never fought in depths we've come to associate with
Alexandrian/Hellenistic pike formations. Nonetheless, there is a list rule to
cover that and it applies to several armies.

I'm curious why classical will be last. To the extent you want these
rules to catch on beyond the folks who already play, shouldn't the
most obviously "ancients" period be available earlier than that?
I'm not trying to change your opinion, just interested in the reason.
I can just scratch together my own hypothetical lists since I don't
expect to play the tournament circuit ... which must be obvious if
I'm interested in classical armies other than Seleucids.

What are the point costs for converting to an element list, I assume its somewhat similar to dbm lists but would appreciate your imput so that I can create one correctly. Thanks
