Hey,
You need to get to repainting that Itallian Condotta army you sold to Phil
under my nose! So I can pay you an outrageous price!

Having 16 tables engaged in 25mm games does many things that 15mm
simply does not. 1) The public display is impressive. 2) Games can
go faster because of the table to scale ratio that we debate
endlessly in here. 3) See #1, because of that, we "compete" better
with another 25mm-only gaming system that shall go nameless but
involves lotsa dice:) .
*********************************************************************
<DS> I am on a couple of other Yahoo groups devoted to different
rules set, and I must tell you that on these groups the NICT Warrior
event at H-con last year created quite impressive threads on said
groups. In particular, that game that uses mainly 15mm and is
labeled as 'too abstract', had many, many participants salivating
over the impressive Warrior games and tourney. Likewise, in another
system that specializes in 25mm and lotsa dice, many complimentary
comments came forth after the NICT. You definitely got the
attention of those gamers, and IMO is the first step in getting them
to try it out.
Haven't mentioned this to anyone yet, but I am busily painting up a
25mm army to coincide with next years Historicon theme. My plan is
to enter into the Warrior theme or Open mini, the DBM theme or Open,
and to do an AAR for Spearpoint/Slingshot to share my experiences.
I'm doing my favorite all time army.

Very true Sir! And I might add they are very fun indeed. But I think it would be
nice if we could graduate to 1250 points soon. And if you feel not having enough
armies is a problem, well. . . Between You, Scott, and myself, I bet we could
contaminate several acres with lead soldiers!

We have two tourneys a year in KC proper. So far they have been 15mm only.

one a year, no?

I would go for that! and we could do it playing with 2,000 points to a side and
play it on a mini sized table!

Well, for starters, Dave, I am opposed to the idea of two things called the
NICT. There should be only one champion a year, whether the event is FHE or
NASAMW run.

It would have to be at another big con, for starters. Had you one in mind?
KC, St Louis and even the Denver cons are all too small. GenCon and Origins
are too light on historical miniatures. Is there a big historical miniatures
con in the south that might be a good fit? Would people attend this in greater
numbers than they do HCon?
One of the central points Scott is making is that if they were to move it,
we'd lose 25% -50% of the players we have in it now just to gain a handful and
as long as that is true, this isn't a good idea. This is besides the fact that
there currently isn't a con out here that is right for an NICT in Warrior.

P.S. Scott ... we are sorry that you had a bad experience, but in
this case, it is quite true that right now, I'm the only one in South

perhaps unrealistic.
True enough. But we have offered to lend 25mm lead to those folks that we
know. There is also that poor soul who came to Fort Worth Wars with you last
year and had his late Romans turned up side down by the GW clod. So there are
actually two of you down there. :^) If I remember correctly, the whole
conversation beforehand was about who could come and who could lend lead.
People
who had replied affirmatively that they were going to come just didn't show.
Scott brought a fair bit down and believe me, we hauled a fair amount of lead
and terrain up to OKC. We ended up playing a 3500 point per side game on a 24ft
table with lots of lead left in the boxes. I've stopped holding my breath
waiting for the 25mm armies you guys are working on down there. I just love the
sensation of breathing way too much. Now, I just anxiously await your
finished products.
I'm seeing all of the no- troops in the flank sectors and 480 pace rear zones
being purported to accelerate games. Just appears to my tired old eyes as
though you are subconsiously attempting to get a 25mm feel in a 15mm game. So
take the plunge. It isn't cost prohibitive if you buy a bag or two at a time
and just paint them until you are finished. Buying an army all at once can be
scary, but I know from my exactly 4 visits to Dibbles that they carry 25mm
stuff, and at least once I found it on sale. Also there is a site in Canada
that
sells not only Foundry but OG and others at US dollar rates but in Canadian
dollars, essentially gaining a 30% discount.
John Green roped me into 25's. It hurt a bit financially at first, but I
will never look back. I have not painted a 15mm figure in 4 years. Probably
never will again. The best that I can tell, the only reason anyone up here is
still painting 15's is to have troops to play you South Texans with and maybe to
allieviate some of the pain of traveling with the beloved 25's. But just
like with kids, experience teaches you the proper way to buckle them in and then
you feel safe taking them with you on trips.

Not to beat a dead horse here. It is very apparent that no change is in the
works any time soon. I support this, although I empathize with the sentiment
for a large tournament in the more central us. The hard truth, guys is that
greater than 60% of the gamers live on or near the eastern seaboard. Philly,
Washington national or BWI are just as accessible by flight for us as any of
the sites listed above are for those you would ask to travel. Since so many
gamers live back east, we would be asking far more of them to travel in order to
make our commute less painful. Probably not the best course of action.
Greg nailed the salient point. We have to demonstrate a demand before we can
ask for the supply. Fort Worth Wars barely draws a half dozen vendors. It
is probably the largest convention in this slice of the country and we can't
even get 10 guys to show up for Warrior. A NICT is no guarantee that we can
draw more. Lets walk before we try to sprint. Maybe FWW is not the venue. But
we should demonstrate a run of maybe 3 years consecutively where we can draw
more than our 12 stalwarts before we ask for tournament recognition, much less
National acclaim. Kinda like the El Paso bowl telling the BCS what a great
boon it would be to hold the National Championship there.

This is a much better initial idea. The last area where DBM has us is in the
size and number of its regional events. I say we work on making a big one of
these first.

Big Dave ...
We know you are hard headed, being a very good offensive linemen from
years gone past, but I think there is a reason you are not getting
support for something in the midwest.
Remember about two years ago (roughly) the Dallas guys had a
tournament in, I believe OKC, and none of the South Texas group
attended?
To call for a NICT tournament up there now ... welll, my hypocracy
does have some limits!

as DBM/WAB are well entrenched and they still have not rid themselves enitrely
of the old 7th 'bad feelings' from the events of 91-93. What I would do is
start with the Sept con and have a Fast Warrior event with the help of KC
buddies and do the terrain up right and have our usual extremely-well-rpized
event.
Better if we could do it in 25mm
The better long -term idea is to work on Denver (and places like it) with
Warrior Battles first - which is why my first priority is to get that done no
matter whether i stay in this area or not.

Greg,
Dave as me to post this for him. Remember that OKC tournament was 25-mm
one-day tournament which natural draws less people since most gamers do not
have 25-mm army(ies). I am talking about a 15-mm "national" tournament that
is going to happen at a set location-that is a little more friendlier to
travelers, natural locations would be DFW, OKC, KC, CHI. Naturally we know,
the first year attendance is going to be light, but as we continue to host
it, it will pick up steam and grow. I am not talking about replacing the
25-mm NICT, but just supplementing it.
