I've recently been "discussing" the issue of community figures with Larry E et
al on the NADBM list. Ages ago, Kruse and I had talked about putting together a
collection of figures for NASAMW. Maybe that's an area to look into for this.
Either a FHE collection or a NASAMW collection. No discussions of politics
please, I'm just offering a suggestion.

Bob

Bob, I think that is an excellent suggestion - not because we will necessarily
implement it exactly that way, but because we need to support efforts like this
proposed scenario game to the maximum extent possible and no idea should be
discouraged.

We at FHE have begun an internal discussion as to how we can best support this
effort and others like it. The idea of how to support the figures required is
one of the subjects on the table, and we'll discuss 'community' figures as part
of that.

'Community' terrain is something else both we and especially NASAMW should look
at.

I'll be happy to take any suggestions, especially from those who sign up to run
such an event, as to how best to support them.

I will say I think we should go out of our way to do this in 25mm (or 30mm) as a
showcase event.

Jon

I was going through some old flyers last night (pre-empting the wife's spring
cleaning, when all my stuff tends to disappear), and noticed that Mike
Mallamaci's Ankara game had won "best in show" or something like that at Fall
In. Showpiece games like that draw plenty of interest.

Those planning Platea please note Jim's mail below. I will coordinate FHE
support to this event, but someone else (Mike Bard?) is doing the overall event
coordination.

Jim, I am sorry but I am not permitted to change a member's mail address. If
nothing else works, the final solution is to unsubscribe altogether and
resubscribe with the new one.

[Deep Breath]

Yes, I volunteer to run this monstrosity. (Fool that I am).

What I need are people who are interested in playing (likely it'll go
through all of Cold Wars given the size of the thing) and which side they
wish to play. I need a list of figures that are available, either by
players, or that can be borrowed. Also, a best guess estimate of what
additional figures could be painted in time. I know that this early there
are no guarantees but if I can at least get a feel for things, I can start
crunching numbers and figure out what needs to be painted.

If you can, give a best guess percentage of your likelyhood to participate
and/or supply figures. In the worst case people can mail figures to a
common point for transport. Not the best solution, but we need Persians
desperately!

My thought is to get a list of figures/people until the end of March, work
through the numbers, and post a preliminary order of battle and painting
assignments (if any). Deep Strike (www.deep-strike.com) the company that
I'm a partner in are willing to devote some painting time, and I can paint
VERY fast. If I can get them, I can likely get a couple of hundred Persians
painted by next March.

Figure lists should be e-mailed to me at mwbard@... to minimize the
clogging of the main list.

Wrong era. Gilles won Sassanids. Platea is fought with Achaemenid Persians.
Radically different dress and shield shapes/ design. Rather akin to using
your EIR's to refight Cannae.

Michael, once you are down the road a little further in planning, please give me
a wish list for FHE to consider in terms of support.

I have a boatload of 15mm Persians and over 250 hoplites as well. Don Carter has
a boatload of both if I'm not mistaken in 15mm as well. . . at least that's what
I remember from our games when he taught me 7th ed. way back in 1989!

starting an army.

I have 64 based and well painted hoplites I would be willing to loan out for
just such a game if Scott Holder would vouch for their safety and travel
accomodations, and the incumbant feasting at their victory celebration over the
"Barbaric Persian Invaders!"

Better get on it - Classical Warrior will be out before Cold War 05...lol

But we'd like you to be one of our list reviewers when we start work on it.

I have three tactical objectives to running this:

1. Have fun. This is the MOST important.
2. Promote Warrior and Ancient miniatures. It also helps that,
coincidentally, this falls within the theme at Cold Wars next year.
3. To playtest Hoplites vs. Persians for the Classical Warrior book in two
years.

and 6 Bactrian.
Matt and I planning to get some Persians. Maybe we will push for the order.

Hello everyone, For this mega battle,if we get it off the ground. We
all should know just how big we want this to be. Maybe four tables?
(5x16) How many players? a order of battle and what terrain we will
need.I suppose this game will be played on fridaynight around 7pm-
11pm or so.We don;t want to interfear with The team play competition
on saturday. with that said, this could be a good oppertunity for
warrior players to draw some attention to rules set and to promote
the Clasical Warrior Army Lists.Everybody loves hoplites.(I think it
will be for sale by then?)How many figures will be needed? Micheal,
do you have any idea? Exsample( 15 units of 24 figures for the Greek
heavy foot, 8 units of 12 Greek light inf. the Persains might be 8
units of 24 heavy foot, 6 units of 6 HC.6 units 8 LC.) Once we have a
order of battle, then players who are interested can contribute
figures.(NOT A REQURIMENT) for that army or command. I have a very
large Early Persain army and a Later Persain army along with a huge
collection OF GREEK HOPLITES. With this mega game being about a year
away, We still have some time to plan this. If there is enough
interest. Any questions or sugestions please post or emil me. Jim
