Not necessarily. For example, if LHI moved 40p and met a fordable river, it

Right.

I'm just confused I guess by the presentation of the rules for
terrain effects (or maybe I'm just dense). But if the effects on
movement of a river are what I summarize above, then I guess it does
slow an opponent down marginally, but maybe isn't the huge cause of a
reduced frontage for defense that the prior conversations made it
seem to me. Just want to make sure that I'm interpreting this
properly.>>
It can be defended as an obstacle and disorders and signifcantly slows close
order and mounted. That can be a very big deal.
BTW - I think a summary move chart for troop types and all types of
specific terrain (hills, brush, marsh, rivers, etc.) would be a great
page to include in the new rules.>>
Thank Mike K and Todd Schneider for their work. All I am doing is reviewing
and putting in the book.

Well, close or mounted could cross it depending on its fordability (12.3).

Right - I think I get it - but march moves are still at 120p?>>
Yes.

Jon - that was me that asked (indirectly I guess) about rivers. I'm
confused about movement across a river (minor water feature), for all
the different troop types. And this is for march or tactical moves. I
got to thinking about this when the river terrain conversations were
going on for narrow frontage armies.
Obviously, close order foot and mounted are disordered crossing a
river - correct?
The rules say that a river is an obstacle - does this mean that all
troops stop until next bound when reaching a river? Or does it just
mean that being very rough terrain, close order moves 40p, loose
order moves 80 paces, and mounted moves 40p and if they have
sufficient movement left they can cross and keep moving? And if a
river is very rough terrain, then march moves are reduced to 120p.

Yes, of course you're right. I hadn't put these subtleties together.
