Okay Mark,

I am convinced. Rolling for generals is a good thing in competition.
Thanks.

As I recall, back in early TOG days, before this was an NASAMW
Region, we had a vote concerning rolling for generals and weather in
a tournament format. I believe the vote was strongly against rolling,
and the biggest reason given was the distance people travel to play
in a tournament.

When Warrior first came out and I ran a few tournaments, I thought
about putting general reliability and weather back in, but we had so
many new players that I thought it best to leave it out. I had
visions of slowing our games down as much as 30 minutes while people
leaf through the rulebook looking for various rules.

This is the one arguement that has not been discussed, that I feel
has merit ... the thought that tournament games are slowed by
enforcing these rules.

The rules for generals are really no big deal. I do wish the rules
for archery in the rain would change to an extra shooting fatigue
result, rather than a minus. The real effect of the rain is the
prolonged usefulness of your bow string, not the ability to hit the
targer on your first few shots.

Next tournament I run in Texas, we will roll for generals and
weather, but under no conditions will the games be slowed while
people look up rules.

Thanks ... g

I have seen an unreliable ally switch sides in a competition game. It
happened to me at InfantryCon back in the mid 90s. I was playing Scots Common
and
my Galwegian ally switched sides and wiped out my Isles ally's command. It
was not a pretty picture.

Who was it who said that the Scots would probably conquer the world if they
could only stop fighting amongst themselves ?
