Well, in answer to Jon’s post, here’s the two lists I am considering for
May.

Both are Late Imperial Romans. Both are 1200 Points

CinC 2E ˝ Reg A, ˝ Reg B HC, JLS, Sh @ 157

Hunnic Ally General 2E Irr B HC L, B, Sh @ 125

Equites Illyricani 4E LC Reg C JLS, Sh

Equites 2E Reg C HC JLS, Sh

2x Legionaries 6E MI Reg D HTW, JLS, D, Sh @ 130

Auxila 6E Reg B 2/3rd JLS, D, Sh; 1/3 B, Sh @ 146

Auxila 6E Reg B 2/3rd JLS, D, Sh; 1/3 B, Sh @ 122

2x Huns 4E LC Irr C Jls, B, Sh @ 81

Hunnic Noble Cav 2E HC Irr B L, B, Sh

Total 1201

The Other list is very Similar.

CinC 2E ˝ Reg A, ˝ Reg B HC, JLS, Sh @ 157

Sub General 2E ˝ Reg A, ˝ Reg B HC, JLS, Sh @ 107

Equites Illyricani 4E LC Reg C JLS, Sh

2x Legionaries 6E MI Reg D HTW, JLS, D, Sh @ 130

2x Auxila 6E Reg C 2/3rd JLS, D, Sh; 1/3 B, Sh @ 122

Huns 4E LC Irr C Jls, B, Sh @ 81

Alans 4E LC Irr C Jls, B, Sh @ 81

2x Cataphract Clibinarii 2E Reg C EHC L, B, Sh

Total 1192

With both lists I am thinking of dropping one of the LC units. I could then
use the points for morale upgrades to the Legions in both lists, or buy
another Noble Cav unit in the first Unit, or a 3rd Clib unit in the 3rd.

I am not an aggressive player, and my experience with Romans is that they
aren’t an aggressive army, but are a good “counterpunching” Army that fits
my style of play better. For the moment, I prefer the 6E units over the 4E
units, because I find them a bit more durable and flexible on the tabletop.

I have a Marian List I like (well, and a Mithradatic List as well Cool ) but
I’ve committed to playing LIR in Kansas City in May.

Todd my only comment is that I would not mix the Auxillia B with the
other Auxillia. Of course I know this is an opion with EIR, and I am
not familiar with the LIR enough to know if this is possible.

If it is, the reason is so that your LMI J/sh guys (your foot
punch/counterpunch) if mixed with the B will draw fire. You want
the legionares to do this as much as possible. If separate, the LMI
B can work with the weak cavalry to open up some charge
opportunities. If you can get enemy mounted disordered by shooting,
then impetouosly charging 1.5 rank Hun LC will actually be a frontal
threat to most of what you'll meet in a theme event except perhaps
EHC.

Todd,

Looks pretty solid. I like the Reg D infantry but would consider upgrading
1 element to "C" class for a total of 4 points per unit. That way you won't have
to worry about waiver tests if you have to prompt them to charge when your
orders aren't attack or if it's after their first charge is used up.
