Saga Publishing is getting ready to put out a scenario book that many of
you might like. Alas, none of the scenarios have been done up
specifically with Warrior in mind (other rules sets are included,
however). But, anyone who has picked up Medieval Warfare will discover
that the army troops types are fairly close to Warrior. Since we've
been talking about scenario setups etc, lately, I thought this would be
a good time to broach this. There are to be 20 scenarios with complete
OBs, various victory conditions, maps, setups, etc. Some are for
one-on-one play, others for groups. Again, this is not something FHE
has any plans on doing in the near term (Jon has his hands full with
Fantasy and Campaign Warrior, I, obviously with lists) but it is a
useful tie in between the two gaming systems and in some ways, doing
this "ourselves" would be mostly reinventing the wheel.

Better yet, I don't suppose some well meaning volunteer with a zest for
this would like to take the scenarios in the upcoming booklet and adapt
the OBs to Warrior? I would normally love to do this but just don't
have the time. If done, we would post these on the Saga and Warrior web
sites. That way, someone could get the book, hit our web site and
presto, instant Warrior scenarios. And since many of you "dabble" in
other gaming systems, this would be an ideal way to test out various
systems using a static scenario. Please contact me off-group if you are
interested and can commit the time to do this.

Cost for the scenario book is $25 and you can go to
www.saga-publishing.com for details. That's AFTER you go to
www.fourhorsemenenterprises.com and order what you don't already have
from us!

Yes! I had a scenario contest as an attempt to fill it and no one
responded... :(

I have a scenario format in the files section. If someone contributes to
this we'll give them full credit and maybe some merchandise if they do more than
just one scenario - will have to work that our offline.

But the answer is a definite yes.

Is there any interest on the part of FHE in publishing a Warrior
scenario book, either as a stand-alone product or combined with the
second printing of the rulebook?

I was just thinking of a few very basic scaled-down scenarios
covering representative historical battles throughout the period.
Enough of a spread to cover a lot of the most-inked historical armies
or armies similar enough to satisfy. A bit of historical background,
orders-of-battle, battlefield maps showing deployment then how all
this might translate into Warrior terms at a manageable scale. Then
throw in maybe some photos of actual Warrior games of the scenario
(or just set up some likely shots) and dscribe the results of the
historical battle in Warrior terms.

For instance, Magnesia in 190's BC has always been a favorite of mine
for this reason. The Roman army is a good representative of a few
hundred years worth of Republican legions, not necessarily the exact
same army but close enough even with the addition of the Pergamenes.
The Seleucid army is, on the other hand, a good representative of a
few hundred years worth of Hellenistic armies, taken with the same
rough edges. On top of that this particular one battle sees a bunch
of unique ancients-period stuff like scythed chariots, camels and
elephants that make it a great starting scenario for anything from
trying out a rules system to polishing tactics of specific unit types
against some likely opponents.

That is just one example, and I think a very good one.

Something like this might go a long way towards attracting players
with more of a historical than a tournament slant, not that there are
particularly many of them in Ancient and Medieval miniatures but
there a few.

More importantly I believe it would greatly serve the current Warrior
community and generate some positive interest in how Warrior relates
to history - possibly also providing some excellent demonstration
game material.

Would FHE be interested in doing something like this? I know there
are already a lot of other products on the FHE plate and in the
pipeline right now.

And maybe more importanty, ***wether FHE would be interested or
not***, what would be some other real good fairly well-known battles
between fairly well-known armies that could be used to represent a
whole section of the ancient-medieval period of the military history
of Western Civilization like this?

I am thinking something covering high-Imperial Romans
versus "barbarians" and / or Parthians / Persians. Something similar,
best with a substantially different kind of enemy to extend the range
of coverage, in the Late-Imperial period (both of these are in my
mind partly because of the upcoming theme tournament). A good widely-
represetative pre-1204 Byzantine battle against Arabs or Turks.
Something like Hastings and Stamford Bridge as kind of a 2-in-1.
Crecy or Agincourt. Fill in the major gaps, you get the idea.

I would think, since we would be talking about battles with
relatively large amounts of source material (and bibliographies are
always good for something like this too), that this is something that
could be pulled together without a whole lot trouble provided some
thought went into it up front. Then some good work could be put into
the production aspects.

If it got out of hand you could plit it into seperate ancient and
medieval volumes. But more likely that would be sign that too
much "marginal" (from a historical ink point of view) stuff was being
included. The idea being here to focus on the _main_ most-documented
military themes of Western Civilation with apologies to all the
excellent work that has been done on pre-Columbian American, Oriental
and Central Asian and other aspects of Warrior (one has to say that
the background material in New World Warrior in particular is just
absolutely excellent - especially for a free product).

Whaddya'll think?
