				| All this conversation has perhaps brought up an interesting point. The NCAA has
come up with a rule tagged with the nickname 'Cornhusker Rule', that states that
anything done that is not covered within the rulebook, will be considered
illegal until confirmation is requested and given by the NCAA competition
committee. This would eliminate the arguement of "Tell me where it says I can't
do it." by replacing it with the point of view that if it doesn't say you can,
you can't, until you present it and get a legality resolution.

This puts the onus on the one coming up with the new tactic or idea, to
determine its legality, rather than waiting until someone gets screwed at a
tourney, then having that screwed person have to go out and prove they were
screwed. (Sounds like a Clayton Williams line, for my Texas brethren, haha).

Surely this would only be a good thing for our hobby.

 Greg

Athough sometimes what one general interprets one way, the other general
 will interpret another way.

				| Greg,
I respectfully disagree. This is a historical gaming group that
seeks somewhat realistic results in our games and discussion of this
sort is healthy. If anything, there will be no changes to the rules
and that is that! Jon has made this crystal clear. We are merely
discussing possible X rules and the discussion has brought out some
very interesting and valid opinions! I may not get along with
everyone on this board, but I have a VERY high opinion of the members
and the level of their scholarship. It is through discussions like
these that gives me insight into what others in my hobby think
regarding issues that come up regarding my favorite ancients rules.
Whether these discussions become rules that are set in stone is not
important. What's important is that we are discussing issues. Do you
 get my drift there?
Sometimes my wording doesn't always convey my intent in email! :)

We seem to be talking about two different things. I was referring to people that
seem to think that because a rule is not written preventing something, it is
allowable until they are caught doing it, or bend a rule to get an outcome that
was never intended by the rules.

 **** Greg,
Oftentimes these things that occur are regional quirks that
people have. I've actually left my home state and played in other
spots here in the USA and have found that almost every group plays
some parts of the game out of line with that which is prescribed by
 our East Coast guru's! :)

the Big 8 let those Texas schools join a real conference!

Longhorn shirt in the middle of the red section ... you know the shirt with corn
 thrown all over it.

I got to do it again in the first Big-12 Championship game in St. Louis, when my
beloved Longhorns fed the worlds largest $hitburger to those same
Gangsta-Huska's. Me wife didn't speak to me for a month. I still can't decide if
 that is a bad thing.

Actually, I think the Big2/Little6 added the Texas teams so they could win a
bowl game now and then. Not to worry for Missouri fans though, you will be
playing in the Big Sky conference soon enough, ;-)

 Lets see,
Since we are talking tradition and not recent performance.
How many National Championships does Ol MUUUU have? In any sport? How about
Heisman trophy winners? Rhodes Scholars? Presidents of the US?, Captains of
 Industry? National Heros?

I'm sure that as you research that you will find some. We don't even have to
research the numbers are eminent enough. Like the place(s) or not one thing you
can not disparage is the traditions there, even athletic.
Don't worry, I am grinning ear to ear as I write this waiting for the hail of
 guffahs to storm my way.
