Ok here goes…
I have placed Fantasy Warrior playtest draft 4.0 in the files section. Along
with a copy of Warrior it is a complete set of rules that has been in playtest
for two years, and includes 16 of the planned 60+ army lists.
You are free to use this draft and make as many copies as you like. It is still
copyrighted, so you can’t republish, sell, use ideas, etc.
I am doing this for several reasons:
1. Fantasy Warrior is not going to get published anytime soon, but it has
proven so successful a recruiting tool that I want it in player’s hands now.
2. I actually do trust that our loyal fans will buy a copy when it becomes
available.
3. When I am done with the new rulebook, the next project will be Warrior
Battles. It may be that it proves better to make a Fantasy Warrior Battles well
before (or maybe even instead of) a Fantasy Warrior due to the reduced level of
complexity of WB and its intended audience. We may decide then to leave FanWar
as an online only product or to publish both – who knows… But there is no
longer any need for our general playership to wait.
4. While I philosophically reject the idea of ‘consumer playtesting’, I
also live in the real world and we do not as yet have a full time staff. Any
playtest comments at all generated by making this generally available will be
very helpful indeed.
5. However daunting to learn both Warrior and FanWar simultaneously, it is true
that I had 9 players do exactly that. All are playing FanWar as their primary
fantasy miniatures game, many have armies specifically purchased, painted and
based for FanWar and three have gone on to earn NICT qualifications in basic
Warrior from a FanWar start. If by making FanWar available we recruit even one
completely new player – it has been a good day.
I’ll take any and all playtest comments. I can’t guarantee that I will get
to them soon, but I will keep them and take them into account with each draft
update.
This draft does not include the rules for flyers, magic items or fantasy
terrain. Your ideas are welcome, but those are being done in-house.
I will take any and all proposed lists for popular and mythic fantasy. To have
a good chance of being used, please stick to already completed special abilities
and troop types as much as possible. A list must take into account ALL, and I
mean ALL currently available figures for that list – in ALL scales. At a
minimum, it must account for all citadel, demonworld, chariot, tin soldier,
black raven, blood dawn, crocodile, and irregular figures from the list in
question. One of the key selling points of FanWar is that the player may use
figs from any manufacturer.
I would discourage you from proposing any traditional fantasy lists. Those are
for me and Scott to do, primarily as a reward to him for getting Classical
Warrior done.
If FanWar generates a lot of discussion, I will re-energize the FantasyWarrior
yahoo group.
If I end up using even a single idea from a playtest report or proposed list,
your name will be included in the credits of the final product. However, all
submissions, as always, are the property of FHE - submission guidelines are also
in the files section.
Enjoy.
Jon
