at the far end of the wargaming universe (along with Big daddy John
Garlic), but have been hanging in there off and on for twenty years.
In the last five, a majority of my total TOG/Warrior games have been
played at Lancaster. (Like Keyshon Johnson, I guess I just don't
practice well; on the other hand 150 miles driving to get to a game
is hard to do on a regular basis). As a soon to be old-timer and 2nd
rate historian, and classicist, and Byzantinist, I would just like to
say thank you to all you guys I have watched work like hell and lead
this strange and eclectic group, guys like Larry E and Scott H, and
many more. Guys like Ewan who never was too busy to kibbitz and
educate old duffers like me. And the guys in San Antonio like Greg
and David "The Beast" Beeson (and their wives) who put me and son
John up in our rare travels north (yes north) for some really great
and hilarious times. This hobby has a lot to do with me passing my
Greco-Byzantine heritage on to my son, as well as my love of history.
I would personally like to thank all of you for this realy neat deal.
I was afraid it would die out when certain other game systems came
into vogue (and when computer gaming and fantasy took over), but
regardless of what I see as some very legitimate disagreements here
and there, Keep the faith baby. In the end, what unites us is much
more significant than what divides us. I just want all you guys to
keep putting little toy soldiers out on the table for the rest of us
to learn from. Roll up and light pigs!
