Warrior Ancient and Medieval Rules

Hi,
I am new to warrior. I have noticed that the lists generally use * to indicate that particular restrictions apply to certain troop. Generally these are ethnic/national groups.

For example an Ally general needs to be purchased for his troops to be selected.

Looking at Early Hungarian list there are both Hungarian and Croatian foot marked with a *. The notes detail that * minimums apply if any foot are used.

My question is, do you need to always choose Croatian foot or can just the Hungarian foot be selected?
