It is clear from the list that one may not mix pike armed elephants with howdah borne javelin dudes within a unit in the Early Seleukid Elephants. may one field two seperate units, one with 2 JLS crew and one with pikes? In truth, my only reason for asking is that I haven't finished painting my second unit of JLS armed elephants, and if I want two units I am stuck with one unit odf each. Can I legally run the units together?

The line in question is:
Elephants El with Irr C crew astride of all JLS-armed driver and 1 P @ 40pts, or all unarmed driver astride and 2 with JLS in howdah @ 40pts

This applies to the entire army. All of the elephants in the Early Seleucid army must have one crew set up, or the other, no mixing.

Furthermore, the line
Extra to give Elephants with crew astride 1 additional crew with B @ 5 pts
applies only to the JLS driver, P astride crew type of elephant.

In actually purchasing your elephants you will find that in most cases, the P armed crew elephant performs better, as it delivers a -1 to enemy constantly.

I suspected that was the rule. <sigh> Now all I have to do is find some more pikemen to go astride my elephants. I have lots of unpainted elephants I could use, but no pikemen to go aboard. Thanks, Frank.
