Jon,

When a unit is replaced in combat, according to 6.523 the body replaced is moved to behind the charger...now say that you have a 16 man LMI unit in a 2 x 2 formation attacked by 6 man cav unit in column. The cav win and recoil the LMI, expanding in the process. Another LMI unit, aka Aztec for instance, can legally interpenetrate and is in a 1 x 2 column. THe question: do the cav maintain contact with the one element not replaced, or in essense does the entire unit replaced 'break contact' and in the combat round 1 element of cav fights the new unit 1 x 2 column front element only? My opinion is the rule says 'body' and not by element, and thus the whole unit is replaced, but I don't see it played that way.

Jon,

Let's say a unit of Aztecs (unit"A")in a 2x2 formation is replaced in combat by a 1x2 unit(unit"B") but maintains contact with one of it's front elements wtih the enemy. What does this formation look like? Does unit "A" become a column or is it somehow placed behind the elements that just replaced it in combat?
