Hello Jon,

In 8.93 (P80) the shooting factor deductions have -1 for weather that hinders vision (12.22)

They also have a -2 for its effects against certain weapons (which, because it can last for more than 1 bound is obviously related to more than just the visibility issue)

Rain is listed (12.23 P96) second bullet as both reducing visibility and shooting effectiveness.

The two entries are separated so therefore cumulative (for -3).

All correct so far?

The QRS I have (06/14/06) has the -1 effect listed as for weather other than rain. This then reduces the factor to -2.

This would be incorrect I believe.

To further clarify this, the QRS also gives an unqualified -2 for rain.

-2 for rain this bound or last.

-1 for weather not rain that hinders vision - fog, etc.

Hello Jon,

Really sorry, still not sure about the correct deductions.

The rule book has;

a) Deduct 1 'If the shooting element is disadvantaged by weather that hinders vision (12.22)

b) Deduct 2 if rain fell this bound or last if using CB or HG, or this bound if B,LB or Arty.

12.23 says that rain reduces visibility and reduces the effectiveness of shooting.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The amended QRS downloaded from the forum says;

c) -1 if Weather other than rainhinders vision

d) -2 Raining [with no qualifying statement as to the weapons in effects]

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Could you please just indicate once more exactly which of these apply to shooting?

Thanks, Steve

The QRS is a summary and does not cover every bit of text for exacting situations.

Many types of weather hinder vision (mist, dust, etc) by reducing the range a body can *see*.

*Some* of those situations *also* cause the -1 in combat. they are:

"RAIN, SNOW, MIST OR DUST combined with STRONG
WINDS from inside the 90 degree front arc, and sun dazzle
from within the same arc, disadvantage troops shooting or
fighting hand-to-hand (8.93, 9.42)."

So, rain would always get ya the -2, but would only add the -1 in if Strong Winds were involved.

Other stuff with strong winds or sun dazzle cause the -1 alone.
