Fairly simple question, not: in this list English longbowmen are available with the quantaty *4-8. Also, there are other English military available, all with *s. In the list notes it states, "minimums marked * apply only if more than 4 English Longbowmen are used." So, does that mean that 4 English Longbowmen are required for the army, and more than 4 requires an ally-gen and all the other stuff that goes with it; or, does that mean that no English Longbowmen are required, but you may purchase up to 4 without taking an Ally?

You can use 4E of English Longbowmen and not have to get all the rest of the asterisked stuff.

I understand that much of it, but I was more curious about whether you have to take 4 English lonbowmen.

Your original phrasing of the question wasn't clear in that regard.

No, you're not forced to take the 4E of English Longbowmen.
