PostPosted: Sat Jul 12, 2008 5:02 pm    Post subject: Classical Warrior - Roman infantry rules - "legionaries

In the Classical Warrior erata under the circulating combatants section (interpenetrating one body by another), and in the swordsmen section in the CW list book itself under reverting to 1HCW...

there is the term "legionaries", sometimes this has been deliberately substituted (in the erata) for "troops"

I am asking regarding the "Roman deserters" in the Later Carthaginian list, but I believe the question could be taken for Camilan/Polybian in general although some lists do call specifically for "legionaries" as contingents (assuming I am not missing a global definition somewhere that includes all these)...

understanding these (the deserters) are not permitted "fulcum", does the use of the term "legionaries" indicate these troops (and more generally hastati/principes/triarii) are not permitted certain other parts of the Roman infantry rules?

Just to be perfectly clear, I am asking...
"a) do the Roman deserters in the later cathaginian list revert from htw to 1hcw in subsequent bounds of hth
b) may the Roman deserters in the later carthaginian list interpenetrate another body of Roman deserters to replace in HtH"

thx,
jm

if this would more properly be asked under "lists" please move it there for me... "rules" was my best guess.

Yes and yes. The Roman Infantry Rules for both Classical and Imperial Warrior list specifically the troops who are eligible for the rules. Roman Deserters in List 34 (Later Carthaginian) are included in the list (as are Camillan and Polybian Roman) and are eligible. Incidental references to “legionaries” (rather than “troops”) in the text of the rules are not intended to be exclusive and do not affect eligibility. We will eliminate any inconsistencies after Historicon. Thanks, John, for bringing this to our attention.

Cool, thanks BIll.
What about the testudo? Allowed on the Polybian Roman list but no mention, unless I am missing it, for the Roman allies in other lists - particularly, again, the Later Carthaginians.

Since if you ask anyone who has played me what the odds of me putting anyone in testudo are, it is not a high-priority immediate question! But just for completeness sake since I spotted it if you could confirm the current way it reads that only main list Romans (haven't checked them all, but at least not the deserters) are allowed this, or otherwise.

Thanks.
