I've realised given Jon's comments in another thread here that I've been doing something wrong...but which I think should be permitted.

Imagine a Swiss unit in column, 4 ranks of pike, 2 ranks of halberd.

It wins a combat, and being loose order, can expand.

I 'had' been expanding up just the 2 ranks of halberd...but that leaves the unit with two uneven ranks, not only the one permitted.

I think Swiss infantry should be able to make this type of expansion in a follow up...with the 4 ranks of pike remaining in 4 ranks, and the 2 ranks of halberd swinging up to one side or another.

That would indeed require a rules change...

Thanks, Jon...it could be handled, if all concerned felt it should be, in the Swiss infantry special rules and not the main Warrior rules.

As someone who uses Swiss regularly, I think they have enough advantages already. Being a pike block that can also expand is awesome as is. Just need to suck up the fact that we can't also have four ranks deep of pikemen alongside two ranks of 2HCT.

Cheers..........Geoff

I do not believe we need or should have this change. That said, I'd listen to Scott if he became convinced we did.

A bit late but....

My comment as an umpire was "Hey, we're here to fight - just do it - why should regulars "have to" maintain even ranks - the penalty of no second/2rd etc rank still applies for Jls,P, LTS etc etc (oh and Lance now).

Stunned looks slowly gave way to common sense.

It's good to be god (sometimes) and a beer wirks wonders.

Shocked
