Hello Jon,

could you please clarify the following situation;

2 x 4E Units of HI are deployed, two deep, 120 paces apart.

They are each charged by an 8E LMI unit 4 ranks deep and both recoil.

During the follow-up move the opposing LMI both want to expand by an element on each flank, but as the gap between the two HI units is only 120 paces there isn't room for them both to physically fit.

Rule 9.2 (P 81) says that "The presence of other friendly bodies does not impact the eligibility of figures to fight from overlapping elements."

Does this rule apply to this situation, or can only one unit expand to overlap into the gap?

Thanks, Raphael

Gaps don't really have a lot to do with expansion, more about charges.

I admit I am having trouble visualizing the issue, but it would seem that with 120p between the charged units, there should be room (60p each) for an element of each charger to expand, as elements are 60p wide.

If there is not room, there is not room and one won't be able to expand.

The rule you quoted has nothing to do with the act of expanding, actually. that rule just says overlaps don't get blocked by friendly elements also in contact.

J

Hello Jon,

Thanks for the quick reply.

The problem arose because in 15mm a 120 pace gap is only 3" (75mm) and so 2 elements (80mm) can't both fit.

This problem doesn't arise in 25mm games, and I wasn't sure how best to resolve it.
