Shaka Steve and Shaka Jamie led their troops bravely on to the vast plain, in a simple line formation that stretched the width of the battlefield. On the left were two woods and one more woods in the center, while across the field the forces of the evil JayaDerekman were forming up. The fourteen regiments of Zulu warriors lined up and the unreliable scouts in two blobs hid behind their betters. They had done their job sort of, walking around and stumbling into the opposing army. The evil forces of JavaDerekman bunched up to outnumber the forces of Shaka Jamie, while even more forces went around the flank to face off with the scouts cowering in the rear. On the left, the forces of Shaka Steve were amused by the Vietnamese javelin cavalry and then proceeded to brush that light command out of the way. On the right, a much more serious fight developed with bombards, bowmen, spearmen, and elephants squaring off with the married warriors of Shaka Jamie. Sadly, some of married warriors panicked at the sight of the elephants, eventually running off the table. Many comments were made about the uncanny resemblance between wives and elephants as those two units fled. Other units were made of much sterner stuff and smacked into various spear, bow, and bombard units. The sophisticated dancing around tactic stymied the bombards and bowmen, reducing their fierce firepower to more like not much. A few Zulu units even experimented with shooting back, but several -3s ended that effort. Melee combat ensued, as the married warriors found opposing units to fight and watch roll down. Apparently JavaDerekman does not inspire his troops to roll up whereas the brave Shaka Jamie, even while fleeing the elephants that uncannily looked like the wives back at the kraal, could at least roll even. Sundown came and ended the battle at a draw, as the expensive zulu command was balanced by the loss of a vietnamese command plus several other units.
1. -2 on prep fire is handy
2. Free evading from charges lets Zulu units delay enemy units easily. Dangle your unshielded flank in front of someone, and then just run away.
3. The Zulu light infantry brought scouting points but was otherwise useless. |

Be careful not to offend the spirits of the dead.
The real Shaka's mother's offiicial title was "The Great Elephant" ... and he impaled those of his subjects who, in his rather warped view, offended against the strictures of national mourning that he imposed upon the nation after her death.
(I'll tell you what those strictures were, if it is not already widely known, over a beer at Fall In!) |
