Hi Everybody
Just finished a game with a friend (I won Surprised)) we faced some questions:

1) A shaken 6 EHC unit received 3 PPF during the shooting phase.
Our understanding was that the unit must test twice : one for the desorder (as it is already shaken) and once because it was obliged to charge or test but unable to charge as it is shaken.
Are we correct?

2) A shaken unit of LC has been charged and failed the test so became routed.
It has done the rout move immediatly but we were unable to find when the following rout moves have to be done. End of the round?

3) Flank charge and Rear charge : in both cases, during the first round of combat, what are the figs able to fight and what are the bonus/malus to add to the basic factor (shieldless?)
What about the second round of combat?

Thank you for your help
Dominique

HI
Congratulations on the win.
I can appreciate your opponent since I usually am in his position.
Which armies were present??
This weekend is Cold Wars. It is a convention and many of the people are at that event and might not get back to you very quickly.
However, there are some very capable people who had to stay home and watch the home front.
Todd, Ewan , Jevon.
I think also DaveM.
EdK
I will see if they can help.

Ok - here goes.

#1 - yes you are correct. The EHC unit is shaken and hence disordered by nature. 2nd cause of disorder is a test. The unit also has an option of charge or waiver and since it can't charge it must also test. It is two different causes so therefore 2 tests.

#2 page 44 - "L. Troops already broken who are charged make a rout move. The chargers have the same options as in a charge at evaders (6.166)" The LC that rout (from failing a waiver from being shaken and having to respond) must make a response to the charge - that is to rout.

#3 is a bit more complicated. It depends is the best answer. If you are fighting against the shieldless side of the body then you always get shieldless (except SHI and El/Arty). No foot gets the charging bonus against mounted. 2nd round of combat you get following up against all (assuming you pushed them back of course) and any shieldless bonuses used previously.

I will say that one often overlooked rule (and a big one) is on page 32 1st column

"Shaken or disordered troops that receive a combat cause of disorder DO NOT waver test if all of that body's hand-t-hand opponents recoil, break-off, or rout."

Hi Todd,

Thank you for your answers.
I think I was not complete with my explanations on cases 2 and 3.

2° Our doubt concerns the subsequent turns.
After routing, the routed unit was out of charge range and the charging unit has contacted another target so the routed unit was "free" with a total of 10 PPF.In the subsequent turns, does this routed unit continue to move to the table edge with 2 added PPF per turn and what is the moment in the differnt game phases ?

3° We faced 2 different cases:
- The first one was an LI evading after a charge and caught in back by the charging unit.
We are in doubt of the consequences for the combat.
Is the LI unit is desordered? It count shieldless for the turn of contact but is the contacted unit figs from the back rank are allowed to fight during the first round of combat?
And the subsequent turns?

- The second case is : A mixed unit of 32 MI LTS shielded (1st rank) and MI Bow unshielded (2nd rank) are contcted on their right (so count as unshielded as no shield on this side AND MI unshielded on the 2nd rank)

During the 1st round of conbat, is the MI desordered? Are the stands in contact allowed to fight?
What about the subsequent turns?

Thank you for your help

After the first bound of in which the unit makes a rout move, all subsequent bounds are the same: rout movement is done in that phase, is towards the rear edge of the table, and incurs 2CPF for the rout movement.

Units are disordered as a result of, not prior to combat.

The only troop types that can fight to the side or to the rear are crew of models (artillery, elephants, chariots). They can fight with 2 crew in any direction in the first bound, and with all crew in subsequent bounds. Note that a crew figure cannot fight in more than one direction in a bound. So, for example, if crew choose to fight a frontal opponent they cannot then
also fight a flank or rear opponent in the same bound.
