I've played Palmyran a lot, albeit 20 years ago.

This is, though, an example of an army that has a flaw so fatal and common as to make it unviable, IMNSHO: enemy knights rout both your SHC and legions on contact, and you have no counter to them.

But against any non knight army, the LMI/SHC teams is a great way to go. Because they are regular, they can maneuver out of the way of the other sticky wickets, Pike, Longbow, and Elephants.
