What are the benefits of running LMI Irr A warriors VS MI Irr A warriors in these two lists? I'd like to base ump about 160 figures one way or the other.

My very biased opinion is that Irr A LMI are better than Irr A MI. They have abou the same hitting power against other LMI/MI:
* 6 figs of LMI in 2 ranks will hit 5@7=30 in an impetuous charge.
* 8 figs of MI in 2 ranks will hit 6@6=30 in an impetuous charge.

But:
* You're paying more for the MI (4 figures per stand instead of 3)
* MI are terrible rough terrain troops
* MI can't go into skirmish
* MI have a shorter charge reach
* MI can't use JLS as a missile weapon

On the plus side, MI don't take a waver for being charged by mounted. However, as Irr A they should pass that waver regardless. And if you positioned yourself to get caught flat-footed and taking a mounted charge at the halt you've made a mistake anyway. With Irr A troops remember your "ABCs" -- Always Be Charging.

So go with the LMI.

Anybody bringing Gauls or Galatians should be allowed to use them at their weighted values. I found 1920 pts Galatians do able vs 1600 pt armies in the Theme. Open tourney they'd need that even more.

I think in chosing the lists there are "core" troops - your debate over LMI vs. MI and there are support troops that allow your core troops to operate.

Fox example many armies have knights (they are principally the same Irreg B SHK or EHK troops) but people choose the army based on either the historical love or the support troops/feel of the army that allows the core troops to do their job best.

Gauls or Galatians have some of that as well. I love the big units of LMI in 4 ranks personally - the extra 40p of mov't is helpful as is their flexibility in terrain. However, the MI have some better staying power. Both struggle vs. lancers in quantity IMO.
