|

Good afternoon people.
Council of 5 Nations was a great success. We used historical parings (10 pairings and 20 armies - thanks to Bill [as he gives so much of his time and support], Ed and Matt) of about 1200 points each - give or take.
1 - NKE/Hittite
2 - 100YW/Med French
3 - Andalusian/F. Spanish
4 - C. Roman/Gauls
5 - L Crusader/Ayyubid
6 - Norman/Anglo-Dane
7 - E. Hoplite/Ach. Persian
8 - Polybian/L. Carthos
9 - Trojan/Mycenaean
10- E. Byz/Bulgar
We played on roughly 6x5 boards with reasonable terrain. Results were tabulated based on regular scoring for each matchup BUT bonus points were allotted for best result of each matchup (winning vs. losing, most points scored, etc....) Not every matchup was used twice but most were.
Results:
Ewan McNay - 20
Dan Woyke - 15
Chris Schulitz - 15
Matt Kollmer - 14
Scott McDonald - 14
Greg Siter - 13
Jake Kovel - 12
Christian W - 12
Rich Kroupa - 11
Todd Kaeser - 11
Ron Surdam - 11
Bill Low - 7
Bill Chamis - 6
Alex Stone - 5
Ed Kollmer - 3
Sportsman - Alex Stone
Not everyone played all 3 rounds but we declared a winner anyway
Great turnout (we had people travel from D.C. area - all we asked if you were able to bring some dice and maybe some measuring sticks (although we had extra for others). Lots of newbies (we paired them as sub generals to experienced players) to get the feel of the game and I believe they enjoyed the format. Great thanks to Jevon for the organization and pairings as we went along.
Jevon, myself, Dan, Matt and Bill all met the weekend prior to organize armies at Bill's house. I made some new hills (ala Rich Kroupa and all his help) and brought some terrain. We would certainly like to do something like this again next year BUT we would love additional ideas, thoughts, corrections, advice.... you get the idea.

Thanks to our tireless organizers for a great event- for casual players like me the format was just about perfect.
It was a GREAT event for introducing new players - as a bonus, it made what we were playing a lot more understandable to passers by and gave us a great historical hook. In fact, we should probably have a sign on an easel that reads "Does this look like fun? Join us at x o'clock and push some beautiful lead - no experience required!" We might create one or two players - I would volunteer to take on a newbie as a partner.
Beyond thanking our organizers, Jevon, Todd , Dan, Matt and Bill, I'd like to thank the whole crew for welcoming my nephew Christian. He had a great time, and was asking about the next events as I drove him back to Rensselaer.
Meliora!

Thanks to all that organized the C5N event. We have all studied and fantasized about the great battles of antiquity. However, many of these armies are simply not practical in an open event. However, when played against their historical opponents the game was very interesting and challenging. The historical notes and player aids that were provided also added to the event. Many thanks to Bill Low for providing so many beautiful armies. I hope to do this event again in the future. |
