25 -- Lysimachid. 1680 points

27 -- Early Seleucid. 1500 points

34 -- Later Carthaginian. 1600 points

35 -- Bactrian Greek. 1760 points

36 -- Numidian. 1920 points
Up to two terrain feautres (not including water) may be replaced with Brush. Roll per Mongol rules for replacing terrain.
When determining Eagerness for charging per the Barbarian Infantry rules (see below), Numidian/Moorish infantry does count friendly bodies that include LC if it meets the rest of the requirements.

Imperial Warrior:

10 -- Marian Roman. 1760 points
Must use the Roman Theme Marian list.
All elephants must be used (exception to the list).

Holy Warrior:

Oriental Warrior:

Spearmen, Axemen and Tribal Warriors count as Barbarian Infantry for eagerness (see below).

7 -- Early Indian. 1680 points

18 -- Burmese. 1680 points
Levy Spearmen count as Barbarian Infantry for eagerness (see below).

20 -- Champa. 1680 points
Spearmen and Vietnamese Regional Javelinmen count as Barbarian Infantry for eagerness (see below).

26 -- Khmer. 1600 points
Levy Javelinmen and Burmese Javelinmen count as Barbarian Infantry for eagerness (see below).

31 -- Medieval Vietnamese. 1680 points

36 -- Delhi/Lodi Sultanate. 1600 points
Afghan Infantry, Hindu foot and Rajput Javelinmen count as Barbarian Infantry for eagerness (see below).

41 -- Vijayanagara Indian. 1600 points
Hindu foot and Nayak/Provincial foot count as Barbarian Infantry for eagerness (see below).

Theme Rules:

-Armies must field at least 8 elephants.

-If Elephant Escorts are available in an army list, you may purchase 1 element per elephant element regardless of the number actually shown in the list. This does not mean you can have Elephant Escorts if there are none in the list.

-Units in armies that do not get the Barbarian Infantry Rules get the following: An Irregular body of Barbarian Infantry (identified specifically in each list above) with more than 8 elements is eager while any friendly body that does not include LC and/or LI within 240 paces is declaring a charge, charging in the current bound or already in H-H-H combat and not broken or shaken.

-Classic Warrior lists amy use the One-Element Elephant Units X-Rule.

-JLS armed cav fight 1.5 ranks in HTH combat versus any foot when charging, counter charging and pursuing.

-Barbarian Foot Rules in effect with the following addition:
Under 2(a), add "following up" as a new condition for counting 3rd/4th ranks in HTH.

Need to look at numidians - 1960 points is pretty attractive

1920 points.

I'm playing Numidians. It will use actual Numidian figures as well.

1920pts barely makes the army viable and the jury's still out on that. I ran Galatians at 1920pts, actually a good size to make the army viable.

There's too many other lists that are still far more effective. Sheesh, play something you're comfortable with and let us schlubs power game Tier D armies even with a crapton more points.

So I will look at pooints and armies and see if there are lists that catch my fancy - I may just run Burmese - as an incentive to paint them, or Khmer for the same reason.

If you're looking for someone to referee the Theme for 2020, I'm happy to volunteer.

Todd typically does but then if we have an odd number, he plays. This could be a situation where both of you can do it and tag team on playing in any given round.

Thanks. It provides flexibility.

Would love to hear folks thoughts about this theme...what army you like, dislike, and so forth.

I personally think there's a dynamic where close order foot are problematic here given they don't catch anything and are vulnerable to elephants, particularly pike armed.

So painting Burmese elephants - but there are a lot of intriguing lists - I have always liked Bactrians - but never made them work, maybe this is the year. Indians - have the elephants and chariots - and the bow - so many choices only one tournament

I don't know what sort of lead I have that would work.

Could my Africans work for Numidian-ish? I have 4 elephants and could paint up 4 more for the theme and see what else I could get to make it work.

Email me a couple of photos of representative foot elements and an elephant and i'll tell you if they work. Also, google:

Numidian infantry

and look at the images and see what you think.

I'll won't be too restrictive since it'll mean a second Numidian army in the mix. The cavalry will probably be the hardest to justify.

Interesting metagaming possible here...do you run an anti-Elephant Elephant army?

Or do you run an anti-anti-Elephant Elephant army?

Or do you just run an army you like with troops you enjoy playing with?

Frank

I would assume there will be some who run armies they want - regardless of whether it is good or not. They have the army and like using it.

Some will be power gaming and run the "best" of the options - it is what some do and that is fine as well.

Some have the better armies and enjoy running them so will run them.

I'll run what I can make (assuming odd number and I'm umping) and play to play and then drink wine and eat Nancy's bread at night with the Red Wine Gang.
