Hi from the Isle of Man (yes, real and no, not part of the UK).

We have a small wargaming group here on the Island of around a dozen people. We have a subset who has dedicated themselves to testing out all of the ancient land rule sets around. Finally we got to Warrior.

I've played 7th Edition quite a lot so was aware of the basics, though it was a few decades back. My opponent hadn't. Anyway as our first test game we played a 1900/1600 point battle as we had played this for the SOA Battle Day earlier this year. I basically tweaked everything by reducing the troop type nos significantly. Seemed to work.

Anyway we didn't get that far in the battle but we did get to fight some key engagements and shake down the rules or more adjust our brains to a real rule set.

Things we found: -
1. Although I have produced a QRS i need to be more extensive
2. The rules are a solid piece of work
3. The rules have a logic to them it just took a bit of getting used to
4. Commander character & interpretation are good (2 x Unreliable and 2 x WAIT orders).
5. March moves were quick and easy
6. Simultaneous movement was a breath of fresh air
7. Tactical movement was ok and simple
8. Shooting was simple enough and worked
9. Close Combat - phew! a bit of a learning curve and this is where a more extensive QRS becomes helpful. The results were logical
10. I had a problem with the rather factor-orientated WRG system that Warrior inherits in hat whilst it is far better than any other system used it doesn't generate historical results . I have an idea that we may test out which is based on an idea in a Napoleonic rules set and that is a modifier for fighting a superior (Morale class). But early days yet. Thoughts?
11.We are playing another game soon! Yippee!!!
12. Although we didn't get anywhere near finished the battle was going the Thebans way, unless a CinC fighting in the front rank is mortally wounded.
13. A good solid rule set that should have far more play time. I'll load up my Guide (18 pages) & QRS once complete (5 pages currently) and promote elsewhere.

Gura mie ayd (gurr-a-MY-edd) "Thank You"[/list]

Thank you for playing Warrior! I'm glad you finally got to it.

Creating your own X-Rule(s) is absolutely fine...we ourselves have some available on this forum:

http://www.fourhorsemenenterprises.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=73

These are extra rules or modifications we have decided to adopt over the years. They are not all in force at all events we run, and some events will test out a new such from time to time.
