On 11 Nov, HMGS posted on Facebook that Cold Wars is a go. That's good news. The bad news (totally from my perspective) is the date and location:
27 Feb - 2 March
Eisenhower/All-Star Complex, Gettysburg
The second one and my reaction to it is based on the crappy experiences we had with the place and it's management back in the day. I have no idea if that's changed but from my perch as tourney coordinator, it sucked. Be that as it may, it's not a show stopper.
The first one is a show stopper for me. I go to a documentary film festival that's scheduled for that date next year. It always falls on that date and has never been an issue vis a vis Cold Wars until now. Dunno why they picked that date other than it was probably the only one available given the relative last-minute nature of re-starting Cold Wars.
I've reached out to the Con Director and HMGS President to tell them I'm more than fine doing all the tourney coordination work but won't be there that weekend. It's not unlike how I did it for Fall In for every year but 2 (and the last couple coming out of The Plague Times).
Soooo, my question for y'all is would you prefer to go to Cold Wars or do BillCon a couple of weeks later like we did last year? Bill has already agreed to host it.
If Cold Wars were any weekend other than that one, I wouldn't be reaching out like this because I'd be there running the Warrior events. But, with this crappy date (again from my perspective) and the success we had last year, I wanted input from the extant player base.

As interesting as it is to me to see Cold Wars again, I have two kids at home and I’m cheap on top of that. I’m coming out mostly for Warrior, and I can do that much more inexpensively and casually at BillCon. Especially if you can’t make it, Scott, I’d vote for BillCon. |

I would vote for Cold Wars at Gettysburg. I can go either way. HMGS has been my portal into the hobby and I will attend either way. Bill Conn is always a blast and the event host is the best.

On the other hand teams and fast warrior would not be the same without Scott Holder. Perhaps Bill Con would be better. I change my vote to Bill Con.

I'm in for Bill.
Also willing to ump any and all to help alleviate any issues faced by Scott for attendance or stress

The 4th? Annual Harold William Low Not Yet Memorial Con is far superior to anything else…and a better date would be appreciated. |

No date as yet but I'd shoot for the equivalent of last year, thus it would be 14-15 March 2025.
We could push it back a week, etc. I'll worry about that once I get a better picture of what people would prefer.

Okay, this decision just got effectively made for us:
BillCon 2025!
The Event Coordinator got back to me. They're putting Tourneys in the All Star Center, remember, the place down the road where the dealers will be and that closes at 7pm? For most tourneys anymore, that won't be an issue but for us? Forget it.
Plus, the Event Coordinator has said they've allocated "two rows of tables". I'm waiting for a response as to how many tables that'll actually be. Nonetheless, it'll help all the tourneys then if Warrior isn't there and given everything playing into this, I'm more than glad to not be there.
I still need to finalize a date with Bill. Per above, my preferred date is the equivalent of last year. Or the following weekend. Basically, whatever works best to ensure another 8-team tourney and 8+ Fast Warrior event on Friday is what I want.

I would vote for BillCon over Gettysburg.
Also want to put in a plug for 1800 pts over 2000. The lists these days have less required minimums than the old 3 books making a lower total generally easier to work with. It also allows for a bit more space on the table for maneuver as well as making the games go a bit faster. We might shift to 1200/1500/1800 more broadly.
I like Open formats also so I can use my own lead.
Thanks, Dave |

See above, it's BillCon.
I know your 2017 post on 1200/1500/1800 point formats and have been mulling it over for quite some time now.
So, we're gonna do Doubles at Bill's at 1800pts. We sorta messed with this with weighting for the Condotta Theme and it worked well.
Also too, if you look at my stickied post about events, I'm going with an every-other-year themed approach to Doubles, so, 2025 will be an Open.
I'll put up a separate BillCon post sometime over the next week or so.

Huzzah. I would have been a strong BillCon advocate anyway.
[If Bill wants a break some year, I am very happy to host a EwanCon also/instead; we now have an excellent gaming space available. Albany not as convenient for some/many I guess. Also speak now, depending on political idiocy we may not be here more than the 18 months our younger kid has in HS...] |

Thanks Scott. It's more likely than not that the venerable Stier/Gilson duo will put in an appearance. |
