Hoplites...try them, you'll like them.
>But there's a perfectly good reason they went out of style: phalangites:)
Well, okay, constant internal fighting weakened any pan-hellenic resistance to
the Macedonian threat to the north, the Roman weapons system was being devised
in parallel but completely independently of Greece to deal with Greece-like
armies so they woulda been killed in the long haul, etc etc:) :)
>Warrior's great at showing how weapons systems grew obsolete over time. The
chariot is a case in point. At least that perception of Warrior was pointed out
to me at Cold Wars and I must admit, there's some credence to it.
>Having said all of that, this thread just reinforces why I love theme
tournaments.

So, looking for guidance in terms of what to expect in the NICT at Historicon,
these results really don't tell me anything. And that's a good thing.

One thing that I like a lot about these results:
There doesn't seem to be any real pattern to the armies people chose to take.
Lots of Sassanid Persian; that seems to be the current "top choice". But lots is
still a miniority by a long shot (even if *grumble* Alex and I did have to face
2 of them in 3 games). Some knight armies, but even there quite a mix. Some
pike armies. Not as many elephant armies as I anticipated (says he, who brought
370+ bows). I don't classify Sassanids as an elephant army, really; to me an
elephant army means six or more elephants. No Burmese, no Khmer; that's quite a
surprise. Quite a few armies from Oriental Warrior (Mongol, Tang, Shang, Han).
But I think it's fair to say that this was an area that was previously
under-represented.
So, looking for guidance in terms of what to expect in the NICT at Historicon,
these results really don't tell me anything. And that's a good thing.

What army is that? Please email the troop list and your desired tactics to
everyone on this forum.

Gosh, Derek, I just don't seem to have a copy of the troop list handy; so sorry
about that. The "desired" tactics are pretty straightforward though:
- Roll up on shooting
- Roll up in hand to hand
- Pass all waver tests
- Hope my opponent deploys with his troops facing away from me
;-)
See you in July,
Mark

Greetings Mark,
If you need some practice bring it to KublaCon I have armies in both scales(
though I need to paint some cav in 25s) I don't think I will be going to
Historicon, unless we get a qualifier and its me
