I agree. I like both games for what they each provide. However this past
weekend at Bump Ridge, we played 1600 points of 25mm on a 10X6. By far one
of the coolest games we have played in a while. Lots of manuevering, lots
of action on the flanks, and the board edges played no part in the outcome.
This was in no way shape or form a line it up and shoot game.

25mm games are different than 15mm games. The scale can determine
the "feel" of the game. Some scales are better for doing different
types of battles and scenarios.

I use 15mm for American Civil War, and have gone to 10mm for
Napoleonics. The smaller scales are better at dealing with the broad
sweep of battles like Antietam or Waterloo (or more likely, pieces of
those battles). The smaller scale may also be more appropriate for
the large battles which occur in the ancient ancients.

However, most of my ancient gaming is in early medieval (i.e. dark
ages). There, the 25mm figures give a better feel for the smaller
battles which typify the period and where you really do want to get
the feeling of a leader who leads from the front and engages in other
heroic acts (explaining the high mortality rate of these leaders).
15mm figures just do not capture the right feel. And in this period,
a lot of armies did simply line up and charge into each other.

Similarly, the 25's do double duty for skirmish games, and are more
appropriate for siege battles (under most rules).

There is also a very different tactile feel to a game with 25mm
figures.

So its mostly a matter of personal preference.

The 25mm problem which has been mentioned really tends to be a
tempest in a teapot. It is a problem which is easily fixed (e.g. by
adding a 30mm scale.) The problem is really one of promoting the
game to the Warhammer players, who do form a significant part of the
hobby. (Nobody wants to remount figures, so the transition from one
game to another should be as easy as possible.) Outside of
Historicon and Cold Wars, tournaments probably will not be a major
concern until the game is better established.

Ironically, the best way to attract new players to any new game is to
use the larger figures. Nothing attracts attention like well painted
25mm figures. And a game on a 10x6 table will be impressive at just
about any venue.

Sounds like a blast. Now I wonder if my Wife would
allow me to put a 10x6 table in my dining room :)
