Hi all, I'm new to the list, and am considering beginning to take up
Warrior. I'm an long time wargamer, but have only relatively recently
got into miniatures - first with Warhammer Ancient Battles, but it
looks like the command and control rules in Warrior are of greater
interest to me. Also - it appears that in Connecticut, where I live
and work, that Warrior is more frequently gamed (and by a more mature
crowd that I would welcome) than is WAB.
Question of scale though - most of the nice figures on the market now
seem to be 28mm. Is this scale commonly used, or do people just try
to squeeze the figures into a 60mm wide element base? Is there a
convenient way to use figures based for both Warrior and WAB, and
still find opponents or gaming clubs? It would be nice to have the
option to play both games with the same army. Also - is 15mm still
the most popular scale? I don't see as many figures at this scale
that I like, and now being in my forties, I don't think my eyes could
take painting such tiny figures.
Just wondering - a search of the archives didn't reveal any
discussion on this subject.
Also - I'm planning on visiting tomorrow a game convention, AirConn,
in East Hartford, Connecticut, where a Warrior tournament is supposed
to be taking place. I hope to have the opportunity to watch same
matches and get a better feel for the game.

Welcome. Whereabouts in CT are you? I'm up in Danbury; Bill Low is down
in Wilton, Jake Kovel over in Simsbury, and a bunch of other folk
scattered.

15mm is perhaps still the most popular; 25mm (which would include the
28mm) is also popular. I don't know of any of the Warrior crowd who have
30mm-based armies in CT, nor of any who've come from WAB, but i could be
wrong.

The tourney is being run by Jake and Ed Bernhard. Ask Ed to take you
through the mechanics - he's a great person to learn from. Will probably
be wearing a denim shirt with 'Turnpike Coordinator' or some such on it.

I live in West Hartford - right in the Center if you're familiar with
the area. My office is in Avon, right off of Route 10, only a couple
of hundred of yards from the Simsbury border - I guess I'm pretty
close to Bill Low. I was in Danbury just yesterday. I'm a structural
engineer, and was visiting one of my buildings under construction at
Belimo AirControls off of Saw Mill Road.

So if I was looking to get a game at 25mm, I should base it as
straight Warrior/DBM style? Can you fit these on the base with the
28mm scale figures more commonly available? Or should I consider 15mm
if I hope to find opponents. BTW - do any of you guys game at the bi-
monthly Connecticut Game Club get togethers?

I'll be sure to look for Ed. What scale is the tournament at? I
assume spectators are welcome. I have to attend my daughter's morning
soccer game, so I won't get there until the early afternoon. I'll
have to leave by around 5 PM or so, but I hope to get an eyefull
while I'm there, and to meet some people.
Thanks for the info.

Oops - I guess it's Jake that I'm closer too, but you guys are all in
my area. I didn't realize that I was living right in the center of
the Four Horsemen territory! It's a small world after all.

I would definitely base to the 25mm sizing - and yes, I think it's
possible to get even the largest figures on, in general (and I believe one
is allowed to make bases deeper (not wider) if needed, but it really
shouldn't be).

This is 25mm, and yes, spectators will be very welcome. It's a little far
for me to go given that I can't play - I'm on child duty - but I hope we
can get a game together soonish (I only have a single 15mm army, but Jake
has a ton of lead, as does Bill)
