Actually, I had always considered Lord Home's Border Pikemen 'unsteady' by the
time the Reivers hit them. They may have also been tired. Here is my logic based
on a Warrior situation.
The Border Pikes are in their position but are suffering from artillery fire
from the English, so decide to charge. Sounds like WAIT orders to me, but at any
rate, lets at least assume they took a few fatigues, or they would not be
troubled so. They decide to charge Edmund Howard's right wing and in that charge
they win big, but Howard does put up a good fight. One more fatigue for the
pikes? Two? Then, just as the last of Howard's guys are about to break and run,
Lord Dacre's mounted lancers take the pikes in the flank, stopping them. In game
terms, to me at least, this would mean they did more total, and at least one
CPF, which would have recoiled and disordered the pikes. We then see the Reivers
move in. There is no minus for facing steady P/LTS, no 1/2 the third and fourth
rank, and a serious minus for the combat. at least three, possibly four for the
pikes. I also note that at least the author I am reading talks mightyly about
the sharpness of the English bills, but also states that without the Darce
lancers, the Scots might have won the day.
