The only trouble with creating larger bases/scales is the fact that
an 8x5 table is pretty much the biggest playing area most people can
use, and larger bases & movement distances reduce the opportunity for
maneuver substantially.

That is correct of course. But you can't have both, man.
Actually, everywhere i play -game store, my basement, a couple other guys
houses, and of course all the cons, can manage 12'x6'.
