I have posted this to both WarriorRules and NASAMWList. I *don't* want this

getting into 'NASAMW politics' but I think this idea might solve a bunch of

problems at once. Let's debate the idea as a Warrior event, and at the end

we will take it over to the EC and see what they think.

For your debate!

The World Class Western Warrior Championship

15mm Singles

Warrior 14.0 Standard Competition

6’x4’ Tables, 3 x 4-hour rounds.

One FHE Army List

Date: MLK Weekend, January 2005. Annual after that.

Location:

To start: San Antonio or DFW Texas, if one of those groups volunteers to

host

If not: Kansas City

After the initial event: TBD by the team winners of the previous event, but

must be in a city

on or west of the Mississippi river.

Prizes: 1st Place Individual, 1st Place Team, Best Painted Army,

Best Camp, Best Sportsman, Best Rookie (highest placing player who has not

scored above the halfway mark in a Warrior tourney).

Possibly other prizes from NASAMW, Clubs, Individuals.

Team Cup: Four-player teams may enter to compete for the team cup. The

winner will be the team with the highest three combined scores. Three-player

teams may enter but obviously may not discard their lowest score. Winning team

takes home team cup and hosts next event.

Tiebreakers: Opponent’s scores.

TBD: Neutral Umpire, $ for prizes/sponsorship.

Some background on this proposal, since some is apprently needed... I would

like to have this mail included by my RC in any EC debate of this proposal

in the future - but that is a ways off as we haven't even sorted out details.

It might be something done entirely without NASAMW involvement, but I find

it hard to imagine the membership would object... we'll see..

The SA guys are looking for a 15mm Warrior Championship. Everyone thinks

that is a good idea.

The DFW guys and KC guys have been looking for a way to play together in a

Warrior tourney on a regular basis as the cons in those areas are on fairly

exclusive dates.

A team cup is fun, having done one in Colorado many moons ago, and it helps

with determining where it will be and who will travel in a fun and competitive

manner - and it helps the cup mean a lot to the winners. Greg Regets from

SA also indicated he and some of his friends had played in a team cup event

and liked the idea.

Keeping it West of the Miss. helps those players who cannot get to the

events that take place in CA and the East.

The number of rounds, prizes, etc was all just to have something to start

debating with.

Ok, so let's hear from everyone what they think of such an idea...

The above is NASAMW politics. The crew here can discuss this proposal or

Jon moderates this list and knows full well that his posting cannot

help but become, in part, a 'NASAMW politics' debate.

There was a proposal for a NASAMW sponsored 15mm Warrior championship

presented to the EC by Harlan Garrett. The status of that proposal

is in some question because Harlan, for reasons as yet unknown,

decided to resign from NASAMW.

Jon's proposal is a solution to a problem that does not yet exist.

The EC of NASAMW has yet to learn the reason for Harlan's resignation

and has not even discussed whether to pursue his proposal further.

IMO, Jon is entirely premature in his proposal.

That is not to say that FHE cannot organize and conduct an event of

this nature. It certainly can do so.

However, for NASAMW to consider such an event is improper until the

EC has had a complete explanation for Harlan's resignation and made a

decision on how to proceed with the proposal to sponsor a 15mm NASAMW

championship event.

Jon,

Is it forbidden to use NASAMW on this board? Will you ban yourself

then?

The proposal is ill timed and inappropriate. The reasons it is ill

timed and inappropriate all relate to issues you won't allow to be

discussed here.

It is a pretty poor moderator who makes such controversial proposals

and then prohibits free discussion.

We have been discussing a western team championship for some time, actually.

It is not related directly to 'other stuff', but it did seem a possibility

that it would satisfy 'other stuff'.

I think this is a great solution!

All we ever wanted was to have some sort of nice, large scale 15mm

event down here in the south or midwest. Wanting to give it some big

fancy sounding name was a marketing ploy intended to give the thing a

little initial lift. I'm not really sure why there was so much

opposition/roadblocks, to this idea from NASAMW.

I have three suggestions.

1. Have this thing every year in the bye week between the NFC/AFC

Championship game and the Superbowl.

2. It needs to be more than a one day event, and there needs to be a

playoff. Travelling in the middle of the winter to play three games

is not a winning idea. If we are not going to have a playoff, just

make it a team game and remove the individual champion.

3. Two army lists.

Thanks ... g

I'd have to take a look and see when that is. It is is much easier to do things

like this on a holiday weekend, *especially* if we want to play two days, which

is an idea I would support.

For my part, I would support more games and two days. Just have to find the

right weekend.

<<3. Two army lists.>>

I think we might look at taking a poll of likely attendees when we get further

along and after that the hosting team decides.

Thoughts?

I like both an individual Champion and Team. While I would want to

compete on a team, some people may find themselves attending at the

last moment and not have a team. This also allows very competitive

people the option of teaming up with buddies for fun and still being

able to be recognized as the best from Texas, Missouri, Kansas, and

whoever else should show up... from West of the Mississipi of course.

The individual could maybe just be recognized. The Cup would be for

the Team though.

Two days, 24 hours of play, team members rotate in and out of rounds

so they can take a break and check out how their partners are doing.

Yeah, I would travel to Texas for such! Iron Man Warrior!

<3. Two army lists.>>

With Team play, why would multiple lists be needed? One member could

bring the El, one the SHK, one the B, and one the... Shielded Catalan

dudes...

As advocated by me here several times . Not sure that even that

would get me to Texas, though...

:-) That would be an awesome concept. Take 3 1600 point armies.

Before each round, while the 1000-point core has to remain with the

originating army, the remaining 1800 points of troops can go to any of

the three players.

[Actually, we - as in Milton Keynes, at the much-lamented Triathlon -

have done this, too. One of the years my team won, we took something

like Early Bulgar in one of the (very restricted) periods, and it

never got more than 1000 points, just ran around all day evading. All

of the Slavs went over as allies to one of the other armies, depending

on the opponent. Fun. I *think* that we mixed scales, too, because I

have visions of those Bulgars being in 6mm or something, but it was a

long time ago!]

Howdy,

For most/all of us DBM players I don't believe there was any opposition;

after all we have a 15mm NICT . Oops, drat, there's that dreaded NASAMW

politics raising it's head here.

The idea, per se, is not bad. It is more properly thought of as a way to build

regional and inter-regional competition, however.

It really just mirrors the successful region building practices found in DBM in

the Gulf South and also, now, in the upper mid-west, mid-america, and Ohio

valley regions (where a 3 region circuit has been established).

In this context Jon's proposal is a great idea and one that should be emulated

by other regions. Building a sense of local pride and taking that to other

areas in competition is, generally speaking, good for the hobby.

it.

I am very interested in this tournament. I have a couple of comments below.

I think MLK weekend is the ideal time for us to travel to a multi day event.

Many of us may have difficulty taking off work to travel this time of year.

Having a 3 day weekend helps.
