Ok Jon,
From your post I got the impression you favored a line of battle over an
echelon of columns or other such column attack formation. I am glad to
be wrong on this.
How do see the difference between running Romans in small units and the
small attack columns you referenced? Romans are many times run as small
attack columns to get the advantage of reg manoeuvre.
Specificity though, I do not see how the rules on pulling a unit from
behind will differentiate between Romans in a checkerboard and "a lot of
little attack columns running around". The effect seems, to me anyway,
to be the same for both.
