Hey guys,

Sorry to miss you all at Cold Wars and to be offline for so long.

On the Thursday prior to Cold Wars I suffered a complete rupture of the L-5 disk
in my lower back, resulting in me being carted out of the house on a stretcher,
while attached to a morphine drip, and rushed to the hospital for the next
available slot in the operating room.

Surgery was a success, and through a process of modern technology and
bio-chemical wizardry that I don't entirely understand they are essentially
growing me a new disk (it involves plastic plates, metal screws, and a
protein/peptide that stimulates bone growth). The best analogy I've been given
is the process by which coral adheres to and spreads on a shipwreck.

Alex in particular was crestfallen that we couldn't make the trip to Cold Wars.
The Lancaster events are among the high points of his year. We will definitely
be there for Historicon, and look forward to seeing everyone.

Welcome back, Mark. We missed ya bad - and Alex as well. Looking forward to
seeing you at HCon and glad you're recovery is going well. Remember to ask for
some cool bionics while they are messing around in there. and no matter what
degree Ewan says he has, don't let him get near you... ;)

Now, if you weren't lifting armies containing 1000 25mm chinese archers, maybe
you could have avoided this....

Seriously - good to hear you're ok.

Jon

Pretty much. The bone cells (osteoblasts) will cover the surface of the
artificial scaffold, providing both the correct shape and a defense
against rejection.

Scary stuff. Glad you had a sufficiently-good surgeon nearby Smile.

Mark, Glad to hear you are back home and in recovery. Might be something to
that post about carting around huge armies of cheap Chinese bowmen. Maybe you
need to convert to small elite army, hopely one that does not know what a shield
or a lance is......... Smile Look forward to a game with you when your recovered,
take care, Richard

P.S. My 15mm Early Byzantine's got beat by Dave's Chinese last week, going to
play them against John's Kushan tomorrow night, hopefully some of the Byzantine
Reg A HC will have figured out how to pass a waver test by then................
